Four new cases of COVID-19 in Sask.; seven in hospital; seven more recoveries

There are four new cases of COVID-19 to report in Saskatchewan on August 19, bringing the total to 1,586 total cases. Two new cases are in the southwest and two more are in the northwest region. Of the 1,586 reported cases, 154, or about 9.

There are four new cases of COVID-19 to report in Saskatchewan on August 19, bringing the total to 1,586 total cases. Two new cases are in the southwest and two more are in the northwest region.

Of the 1,586 reported cases, 154, or about 9.7 per cent,  are considered active. 

Seven more people have recovered, bringing the provincial total to 1,410, or about 88.9 per cent of those diagnosed with COVID.

Seven people are in hospital. Three people are receiving inpatient care; two in the southwest and one in Saskatoon.  Four people are in intensive care in Saskatoon.

Investigations completed thus far have found that 104 of 154 active cases are in communal living settings.

The number of cases diagnosed in the southeast since mid-March remains at 11. None of the cases are considered active. There have been 209 in the southwest and 187 in the south central, for a total of 407 cases in the south.

As for the rest of the province, 352 cases are from the far north area (346 far northwest, zero far north central and six far northeast, 254 cases are from the north area (121 northwest, 68 north central and 65 northeast), 248 cases are from the Saskatoon area, 194 cases are from the central area (161 central west, 33 central east) and 131 cases from the Regina area.

Of the 1,586 cases in the province, 226 cases are travellers, 813 are community contacts (including mass gatherings), 473 have no known exposures and 74 are under investigation by local public health.

Sixty-four cases are healthcare workers; however, the source of the infections may not be related to healthcare in all instances.

A total of 259 cases involve people 19 years of age and under, 506 cases are in the 20-39 age range, 492 are in the 40-59 age range, 274 are in the 60-79 age range and 55 are in the 80-plus range.

Fifty-one per cent of the cases are females and 49 per cent are males.

Twenty-two deaths related to COVID-19 have been reported.

To date, 125,181 COVID‐19 tests have been performed in Saskatchewan. As of Aug. 17, when other provincial and national numbers were available from the Public Health Agency of Canada, Saskatchewan’s per capita rate was 90,515 people tested per million population. The national rate was 129,829 people tested per million population.

There were 962 COVID-19 tests performed in Saskatchewan on Tuesday.
