Lampman Community Theatre picked up some hardware at the TheatreFest awards ceremony on Saturday night in Regina in recognition of their Roughrider tribute play.
Sandy Hanrieder, who played the fiesty Luanne Brown, brought home the Mary Ellen Burgess Trophy for best actress in a supporting role.
Painted Green, the Lampman production, also received an honourable mention for technical merit.
Painted Green was performed on Wednesday, April 27, at the Regina Performing Arts Centre, the fourth of seven plays in the competition. The community theatre troupe was given access to the facility at 9 a.m. And had the entire day to set up and rehearse. The performance began at 8 p.m.
"The audience was awesome," said veteran actress Cherilyn Gress. "Some were clapping along with the very first song. It was a performance we will never, ever forget - and I don't think our audience will either."
Festival adjudicator Kathryn Bracht had high praise for Hanrieder in her remarks to the public following the performance.
"We all had a feeling Sandy would win an acting award," said Brenda Fleck, who played opposite Hanrieder.
"I am so proud of Sandy and the rest of our cast," said director Maureen Ulrich. "We totally rocked the place on Wednesday night. Every performer delivered a personal best. We couldn't have done it any better than we did. Kudos to Blaire, Amber, Sarah and Kallan for the work they did on lighting, sound and projection. They made us look and sound fabulous."
Lampman Community Theatre will start rehearsals next September for Between the Sheets, a play about curling.
"We look forward to seeing what Sandy will do with her next role," said Ulrich. "She is one talented lady."
