On Saturday night, Estevan RCMP and Estevan Fire Rescue responded to a report of a vehicle on fire on Highway 47 about 10 miles north of Estevan.

Even though he bought it, he couldn’t take it home. So, police had to become involved.

This different sort of incident occurred on April 16 when police were notified that a person had viewed a particular play structure that was apparently for sale at a residence in the city, and agreed to purchase it. The buyer then departed the site to get a vehicle to transport the play equipment to its new address, but when he returned to pick it up, the seller denied him access to the equipment and refused to return the money, thus, the entry of the Estevan Police Service into the situation, and an investigation, which is still ongoing.

In other EPS activities on April 16, they noted they are investigating the overnight theft of a work truck from a local industrial yard. The truck was located in another business yard on the other side of the city.

Police received a call regarding an intruder at a local residence. The caller indicated that a man pushed his way into the home when the occupant responded to a knock on the door. The man appeared to be intoxicated and was unknown to the homeowner. The intruder left on his own accord a few minutes later, but a description of the man and his vehicle was given to police who will continue their investigation into the incident.

On April 18, a Visa card was turned in to police by a concerned citizen. The card owner was contacted and police learned that it had been stolen two years earlier and had been cancelled at that time. The previous owner did pick it up, which enabled the police to close the file on the issue.

Police were then asked to investigate an assault, theft of goods valued at less than $5,000 and the uttering of threats against a local male resident. The man, they learned, had been punched several times in the head and had his cellphone taken by another man who then uttered the threats to the victim as he left the scene.

On the April 17, night shift, Estevan Police Service members made several roadside checks of vehicles and their operators. One 41-year-old male driver had his driving privileges suspended for three days as a result of these activities.

Police happened to observe a motor vehicle accident on 13th Avenue on the night of April 18. A car rear-ended a truck that was stopped at the traffic light. The driver of the car was checked and seemed to have been drinking so the 37-year-old Regina male was charged with impaired driving and consuming alcohol in a vehicle. His license was suspended and he will now appear in Estevan court in June to answer to the two charges.

A vehicle fire on the north side of the city, was reported to police, who noted the blaze occurred on Highway 47 and was attended to by Estevan Fire Rescue Services and members of the local detachment of the RCMP. The occupants of the vehicle managed to escape without injuries.

EPS members were then dispatched to the north side of the city in response to a call regarding an intoxicated person attempting to enter a residence against the occupant’s wishes. When police arrived they took a 26-year-old Torquay woman into custody and she was lodged in a cell until regaining sobriety.
