Environment Canada issued a heat warning for the RM of Estevan including Estevan and Hitchcock this morning.
Temperatures will reach 32 degrees Celsius and above on Thursday, as well as other days this week and into the next week.
Temperatures above 30 degrees Celsius combined with overnight lows near 18 degrees Celsius are expected for more than five days. A prolonged heat wave has begun across the southern Prairies. Heading through the remainder of the week into this weekend, daytime highs will climb into the low to mid-30s with overnight lows rising to around 20 C. The heat will continue to intensify next week, with even warmer highs developing mid-week. Overnight lows will stay in the upper teens or low 20s.
Extreme heat affects everyone.
The risks are greater for young children, pregnant women, older adults, people with chronic illnesses and people working or exercising outdoors.
Watch for the effects of heat illness: swelling, rash, cramps, fainting, heat exhaustion, heat stroke and the worsening of some health conditions.
