A GoFundMe campaign is underway for Tracy Mathieson.

ESTEVAN — An Estevan woman has received support through a GoFundMe campaign as she battles cancer.

Kaylee Mathieson launched the fundraiser for her stepmother Tracy and family. The campaign page states Tracy was recently diagnosed with Stage 4 advanced cervical cancer, and has a major surgery and treatments in her future.

"I am asking for help," Kaylee wrote. "There is an increasing amount of trips to Regina and Saskatoon, and the expenses and time off needed from their jobs is starting to pile up. There is no short-term medical coverage from her work or coverage from my father’s work."

As of the afternoon of Aug. 9, the campaign had raised $4,645 of its $9,000 goal.

"She will be waiting four months for any money from long-term medical coverage," said Kaylee. "I really hate that this is stressing them out and would do anything to help. Any type of donation helps and is very much appreciated."

Tracy Mathieson said it has been a trying time for the family as they evaluate treatment options. She said she might have to fly to Toronto at some point, which would add to the costs they are facing.

Not only have people stepped forward with donations, but Tracy said they have shown verbal and emotional support.

"Everyone is praying for me," said Tracy. "They tell me if I need help with the cutting of grass or any type of yardwork, just let us know."

She has a lot of support from family and friends who check in on her and send her texts.

If she has to travel to Toronto, Tracy said she would have to pay for her flights, and her husband Scott wants to join her. She expects they would be gone for seven to 10 days.

Tracy said she is trying to stay positive during this time. A date has yet to be set for when she can start treatment.

"I have to check with Toronto to figure out when I can go there. Then we'll start the treatment in Regina, and then I'll have to go to Toronto," she said.
