The Canadian Blood Services will hold a holiday blood donor clinic in Weyburn on Tuesday, Dec. 18, and will give local donors the opportunity to dedicate their donation to someone special.

Once a local donor has given a pint of blood, they can have their photo taken with a personalized dedication message at the photo booth which will be set up at the clinic location, at the City Centre Mall.

The photos will then be uploaded to the Blood Services' Facebook page, and donors can share their miracle with friends and family online.

Holiday dedication cards will also be available for donors who would like to share their gift by traditional mail. The card can be filled out on site, and the Canadian Blood Services will mail it for you.

"At this time of year, it can be a challenge to find that perfect gift. Why not give something that literally comes straight from the heart, and has great meaning to another family that may have to spend their holidays in hospital?" said James Topinka, community development coordinator.

The Weyburn clinic will run from 2:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the City Centre Mall. The agency needs more than 140 units of blood from this clinic; this is enough blood to help 28 people undergoing cancer treatment.

Currently, there are close to 80 appointments still available.

Between now and the New Year, about 4,700 blood donations are needed in Saskatchewan.
