Holy Family, Cornerstone to have joint board meeting

The Holy Family Roman Catholic Separate School Division will host the annual joint board meeting with Southeast Cornerstone School Division on Monday, May 31. Included on the agenda is the provincial funding model, tuition agreements and capital projects. This joint meeting will be hosted in Weyburn.Budget deliberations for Holy Family will take place May 25 and May 27, if needed. The final budget deadline for submission to the province is June 30.During the regular monthly meeting of the Holy Family held May 12 in Radville, director of education Shelley Rowein reported on staffing for the 2010-2011 school year. A number of replacement and temporary positions need to be filled due to the increased number of maternity and parenting leave requests.

Work has been undertaken on recommendations resulting from a liaison meeting with teacher and board of education representatives. Funding for teacher-directed professional development will be moved to school budgets, while earned days off and noon-hour supervision was standardized across the division. A letter of understanding regarding special allowances was finalized by the board of education.Holy Family will continue to offer Christian Ethics at the Weyburn and Estevan Comprehensive Schools. Two classes will be offered at each school during the 2010-2011 school year, one at the 10 level and one at 20 and 30 levels. Interested students can get more information, or register at the school.Following a board development workshop on policy governance, the board amended a number of its end statements. A focus on stewardship values and proficiency in reading and math were among the amendments.A byelection will be held in subdivision one, Town of Radville on June 30. Nomination deadlines are June 2. Any Catholic residents within the school division are eligible to run in the byelection. Interested individuals are encouraged to contact the board office.
