The board of education of the Holy Family Roman Catholic Separate School Division gathered on Apr. 4 for their regular meeting. During the meeting the board met Norm Dray from the Saskatchewan Educational Leadership Unit.
The board of education of the Holy Family Roman Catholic Separate School Division gathered on Apr. 4 for their regular meeting. During the meeting the board met Norm Dray from the Saskatchewan Educational Leadership Unit. Dray gave a presentation about doing a school division review. The information was pertinent to the Holy Family board because they are considering a possible review of programs and services in the fall.
The board also announced approval has been granted by the Ministry of Education to begin renovations on St. Dominic Savio School. Following the school's closure in the fall it will become the Holy Family board office.
As well, Lionel Diedrichs, the Saskatchewan School Boards Association board development services director, attended the meeting. Diedrichs presented the board with the characteristics of effective school boards. Following the presentation, board members identified strengths and weaknesses they see on the board.
The Ministry of Education and the Holy Family School Division will hold its continuous improvement and accountability framework bi-annual conference on April 24. The central office presented a self-reflection on how the school division is doing in regards to governance, improved student achievement, assessment, curriculum, instructional program and student supports, as well as First Nations and Metis education and School Community Councils.
The board approved the amended five-day week and four-day calendars for 2012-2013. The calendar for St. Augustine School in Wilcox was approved pending Ministry of Education approval.
St. Augustine is requesting an alternate Easter break to coincide with the one in place at Notre Dame.
Natalie Regier, Lana Dubreuil and Claire Fingler presented Holy Family's differentiated instruction projects at Rural Congress. They presented what the school division is doing and the changes they see in their students.
The two school divisions in the southeast, Holy Family and Southeast Cornerstone, will be coming together for their annual joint board meeting on Monday, May 28 at Estevan Comprehensive School. The two boards will talk about items of common interest to both school divisions.
Holy Family's next board meeting will be on Wednesday, May 9.
