The clothes and music of the 1950s will be the focus of the sock hop to be held by the Weyburn and District Hospital Foundation on Saturday, March 10, at McKenna Hall.
The music will be supplied by the band, The Bromantics, who will provide brilliant brass tones and do-wop harmonies as they play music from the 1950s for the evening.
“It will be a really fun night, and we really encourage people to come dressed for the theme,” said Melanie Sorensen, executive director of the Hospital Foundation, adding they will let in anyone who attends, but hope people will get into the spirit of the 50s by dressing up.
“I understand a group of dancers will be coming down from Regina, and they will be dressed in theme,” she added, noting she saw this group perform in Regina, and they play with a lot of energy and have a very tight brass section that greatly adds to the 50s sound.
The evening will start with cocktails at 5:30 p.m. and supper at 7 p.m., with the entertainment to get underway around 8 or 8:30 p.m.
The Hospital Foundation will be making their raffle draw for a CAA travel voucher that evening as well. Sorensen noted this is the third year the Foundation has sold tickets for this, with a limit of 1,000 tickets.
Tickets for the sock hop are $60 each or $400 for a table of eight. The tickets will be available from the Hospital Foundation office, by contacting Melanie directly at the Foundation office at 306-842-2626, or by email at [email protected].
