King’s Department Store was a busy place during the Dickens weekend. The store ran many specials and also hosted area musicians.

Friday and Saturday evenings after the parade, everyone was treated to hot chocolate and entered into a draw for free merchandise, the winner, who had to be present, got to pick any item in the store of value up to $100.00.

The entertainers, who were set up in the shoe department at the back of the store, enlivened the customers as they warmed on hot chocolate. Through the two days there were 10 different artists. The musicians proved to be as great as the in-store specials.

Wendy Kimber from Oxbow was asked, “What is your highlight of the Festival?”

“The Drama, looking in all the shops and looking forward to the parade.”

Donna Nyeste is also from Oxbow and she has attended Dickens half a dozen times. When asked, “What is your highlight?”, her response was, “The play and the tea is always fun. The weather is wonderful.”
