There will be several events held through the month of October at the Weyburn Public Library, including the fall book sale, and events for Library Week, which will be marked on Oct. 15-21.
The Fall Book Sale will be held from Thursday, Oct. 12 to Saturday, Oct. 14. The hours for the sale are 9:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Friday, and 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday.
During Library Week, patrons are invited to enter all week for a chance to win a prize package worth over $100. They can fill out a ballot to tell why libraries matter to them, and they can also share the library’s Facebook page or follow them on twitter.
The week kicks off on Sunday, Oct. 15, at 2 p.m., with a class to make beaded bookmarks. Registration is required, and the class is open to those from 10 years old and up.
Button-making will be featured on Monday, Oct. 16 at 3:45 p.m., where children aged six to 14 can make personalized buttons to keep or give away.
There will be free coffee and sweets on Tuesday, Oct. 17, all day, for adults only. A MasterChef “Cooking Contest” will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 18 at 6 p.m. Eight teams of two will compete for the title of “master chef”. Those interested can call to register themselves or their team.
A family movie, “Little Rascals”, will be shown on Thursday, Oct. 19 at 6:30 p.m., in the Allie Griffin Art Gallery. Popcorn will be provided.
There will be movie and video game mania all day on Friday, Oct. 20. For every DVD, Blueray movie or video game borrowed from the library, the patron’s name will be entered for a draw.
The final day is Saturday, Oct. 21, featuring “Twitter Treats”. Follow the library on Facebook or Twitter, with new clues posted every hour throughout the day, and patrons can come in and find some great prizes.
Another special event in October is the annual pumpkin carving contest, to be held on Thursday, Oct. 26, at 6 p.m. The pumpkins will be supplied, and there will be prizes and treats available. Call the library to register for this contest.
Also featured during the month will be a book club for adults, matinee movies every Friday afternoon at 2 p.m., and adult Thursdays.
The book club will meet on Thursday, Oct. 19 at 7 p.m., where they will discuss “Five Quarters of the Orange” by Joanne Harris. The next selection will be Mary Shelley’s “Frankenstein”, available on Oct. 20.
Matinee movies will include “Parent Trap” on Friday, Oct. 20, and “Far and Away” on Friday, Oct. 27, featuring Nicole Kidman and Tom Cruise.

A Halloween night activity for teenagers will be held on Oct. 31 starting at 6:30 p.m.
All programs at the library are free of charge, but for some programs, registration is required as space is limited.
