A couple of members of the Estevan Fire Rescue Service are participating in an important fundraiser.
Lincoln Empey and Mallory Cappelle will climb the equivalent of 1,204 stairs, or 55 flights of stairs, in full firefighter duty gear and raise funds for Wellspring Calgary as part of the 2020 Virtual Firefighter Stairclimb Challenge.
This is the second straight year Empey and Cappelle have participated in the challenge. Last year they climbed the Calgary Tower in their gear; former Estevan resident Justin Charron was also on their team. This year they are using a stair climber to scale the equivalent distance since this is a virtual fundraiser.
Their climb will happen this week at Studio C Fitness in Estevan.
Wellspring Calgary supports firefighters and others living with cancer. For more information about Wellspring Calgary and the Challenge, visit calgarystairclimb.com.
