The Weyburn Police Service became involved in an investigation into the theft of a pickup truck from the streets in Weyburn at about 6:55 p.m. on Monday. During the next hours more information became available suggesting that the now stolen vehicle had been involved in other offences in and around the city. As a result, and assisted by the Weyburn RCMP, the accused was located on a farm in the Weyburn area and arrested without incident.
He is facing charges of theft of a vehicle and theft under $5,000 from the Weyburn Police Service, and may be facing charges from the Weyburn RCMP as well.
City police responded to a report of a two-vehicle collision on Bison Avenue at Seventh Street on Feb. 11. Investigation revealed that a vehicle travelling east on Bison Avenue disobeyed the yield sign colliding with a vehicle travelling south on Seventh Street. The 44-year-old male driver of the eastbound vehicle was charged with driving an unregistered vehicle and with driving with undue care and attention. The 32-year-old female driver of the other vehicle was treated at the hospital for what is believed to be minor injuries.
Weyburn police responded to a report that a vehicle had struck a local business on Feb. 11. The vehicle sustained minor damage, but the business sustained substantial damage. The 72-year-old driver was taken home. The matter is still under investigation.
City police responded to a report of a hit-and-run collision in the 1100 block of Bison Avenue on Feb. 11.
Investigation revealed that an eastbound vehicle being driven by a 48-year-old male lost control striking two residential fences. The driver then failed to remain at the scene or report the damage to the police. He was charged with failing to report the collision.
While on routine patrol on Saturday, the city police conducted a traffic stop. The 24-year-old male driver was found be under the influence, arrested and has been charged with driving while over .08.
City police were called to a local business around 1 p.m. on Saturday to deal with a 67-year-old male who was acting out of the ordinary. As a result of the interaction with the police the male was transported to the hospital for medical attention.
While on routine patrol the Weyburn police conducted a traffic stop Sunday. As the result of that stop a 37-year-old male driver was arrested and is facing a charge of driving while over .08.
City police were called to a report of a domestic dispute early on Tuesday morning.
Upon arrival both parties were uncooperative and would not provide sufficient information to allow the police to continue the investigation.
