A number of events will be held throughout the City of Weyburn on Friday, August 5 to Sunday, August 7, for the annual Weyburn Wheat Festival.
The Heritage Village Days will be held at Heritage Village, located south of the Signal Hill Arts Centre. The opening ceremonies for the Heritage Village Days will be held at noon, followed by a wide selection of local performers set to entertain at the Heritage Village Stage.
Most of the buildings in Heritage Village will be open for tours. Demonstrations include blacksmithing, ice cream making, rope making, butter making, the steam engine, and fire truck rides will be available.
The Soo Line Historical Museum will offer free admission on Friday, August 5 and Saturday, August 6 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on both days. The bread baking contest will be featured on Friday, from 1 to 5 p.m. Also on Friday, there will be a coffee and teal social, with a bake sale offered at the Soo Line Museum from 2:30 to 5 p.m.
During the Saturday, there will be a magician, petting zoo and balloon sculptor at the Museum from 1 to 3 p.m. Other activities include bouncy houses, face painting, games and a barbecue.
The Crocus 80 Youth Summer Theatre will present “Dorothy in Wonderland” at the Tommy Douglas Centre on Friday and Saturday, August 5 and 6 at 7 p.m., and a Sunday, August 7 matinee at 2 p.m.
“Dorothy in Wonderland” features the worlds of OZ and Wonderland, colliding in a fantastically fun romp for the whole family. Doors open one hour before the show, and admission is $10 for adults, $5 for children, and ages five and under are free.
The Weyburn Horticultural Society will have their annual Horticultural Show and Tea Room set up at Knox Hall on Friday, August 5 from noon to 4:30 p.m. The show will exhibit a number of entries from gardeners, plant enthusiasts and new exhibitors. Classes of competition include: house plants/ outdoor plants; cut flowers; roses; sweet peas; dahlias; gladiolus; floral art; flower arranging; vegetables; fruits; the Weyburn Horticultural Specials; and junior exhibits in flowers, vegetables, fruits and specials.
The Weyburn Farmers Market will be held at the City Centre Mall on Friday and Saturday, August 5 and 6 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., on both days. The Weyburn Open Air Market will be held at the corner of Souris Avenue and Second Street on Saturday, August 6 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
