Memorial Cross recipients recognized with special commemorative license plate

"Our government recognizes the sacrifices made by the men and women who serve our country," Provincial Military Liaison and MLA for Wood River D.F.

"Our government recognizes the sacrifices made by the men and women who serve our country," Provincial Military Liaison and MLA for Wood River D.F. (Yogi) Huyghebaert said at a special ceremony at the Legislature, following the annual Service of Remembrance. "We are grateful for their service and for paying the ultimate price for our freedom."

The Memorial Cross is an award that has been granted since 1919 to the loved ones of Canadian Armed Forces personnel who died in service or whose death was attributed to their service. It is granted by the Government of Canada and is frequently referred to as the Silver Cross.

"The Memorial Cross license plate is a small way we can honour these brave service members and their families," Minister responsible for SGI Don McMorris said.

Memorial Cross recipients may request a Saskatchewan Memorial Cross license plate by contacting SGI. There is no additional fee to the customer for this commemorative license plate.

The license plate has a white background with green lettering, with a graphic of the Memorial Cross on the left and "Memorial Cross Recipient" in purple lettering along the bottom. The regular series Memorial Cross license plates contain the letter "M" followed by four numbers (i.e. M0001, M0002, etc.). Memorial Cross license plates may be personalized for a fee of $75.
