Midale (cpd) — The Midale Oilmen’s held their annual curling bonspiel this past weekend. Winning the A Event sponsored by Brady Oilfield Services was the L&D Thompson rink: Leonard Thompson, Ryan Thompson, Ken Gill and Joe Vilcu. Winning the B Event, sponsored by Dempsey Laird Trucking, was the Goodwater Machine Shop rink: Kevin Wanner, Dale Schmidt, Travis Mryglod and Tyler Gammack.
Winning the C Event, sponsored by Newalta was the Gibson Energy one team, Glenn Wiens, Danica Donnelly, Dave Hemphill and Daryl Gosselin. Money made from this event goes towards projects in the community and area, including Midale Central School, Midale Cooperative Playschool, Midale Harry 0 Memorial Arena, Midale Civic Centre and Mainprize Park.
In the past few years they have sponsored one of the reading programs used at the Midale School, they have done free hot lunches for the students and staff at the school, new skate sharpener for the hockey rink, ice machine and cooler to be used for functions at the rinks and many more smaller projects.
The Midale Rec Board will host its annual Midale Trade, Craft and Bake Sale on Saturday, Dec. 6 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Table cost $25 each and must be pre-paid. Please call or text Catrina Moldenhauer on the rink cell phone to enter a table.
Midale Central School will be hosting their annual Christmas Dinner on Wednesday, Dec. 18 this year. They are changing the time to 4 to 7 p.m. with the event being held at the Midale Civic Centre instead of at the school this year.
Midale Central School’s Christmas Concert will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 16 at 7 p.m.
Free public skating at the Midale rink will be held Sunday, Dec. 7 from 2 to 4 p.m.; Friday to Sunday, Dec. 12, 13 and 14 from 2 to 4 p.m.; Saturday to Tuesday, Dec. 20, 21, 22 and 23 from 2 to 4 p.m.; and Sunday to Tuesday, Dec. 28, 29 and 30 all from 2 to 4 p.m. The rink will be closed from Dec. 24 through the 26 and again on Dec. 31 and Jan. 1.
The Midale Mustangs play just two home games in December at the rink. Their first game will be on Saturday, Dec. 13 at 8 p.m. versus Carnduff and on Wednesday, Dec. 17 they will host Oxbow at 8 p.m.
The Midale Novice Mustangs will be having games here most Wednesdays from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Everyone is welcome to come out and watch. The kitchen needs to be open on these days for those that volunteer in the kitchen. The Mini Mustangs will host their home tournament on Saturday, Dec. 6 at the rink with teams playing at 9 a.m.
Beginning on Jan. 1, 2015 the Midale Public Library will be open three days a week. Their new hours will be as follows: Tuesdays 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m., Thursdays from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. and Fridays from 9:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 12:30 to 3 p.m.
All women are welcome to come to the Christmas Social at the Midale Bethlehem Lutheran Church at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 4. There will be some entertainment, a potluck lunch, visiting and caroling. Please come out and have some fun.
