If you are able to cook a turkey with dressing and gravy for the supper, please call Catrina Moldenhauer. The Rec Board supplies everything you will need to cook the turkey and make the dressing. If anybody is donating any vegetables this year, please call Catrina at home or on the rink cell phone and let her know.
The Midale 39ers Seniors Club will host a perogie and sausage supper on Tuesday, Sept. 25 at 6 p.m. Tickets are available from any member of the Seniors Club. Advance tickets only at $10 for adults and $3 for children five and under.
Long-time Midale resident, Edith Messer passed away peacefully on Sept. 10 in the Weyburn General Hospital. She had recently moved into the Weyburn Special Care Home. Edith was 97 years old and was the mother to Iona (Garry) Scharnatta from north of Midale, Dahlila (Lawrence) Moldenhauer of Midale, Rodney (Glenna) Messer of Peachland, B.C., Darwin (Leona) Messer from Kelowna, B.C., Barry Messer of Halbrite and Loralee (Rick) O'Brien of Maple Creek. Edith was a grandma to 18 and great-grandma to 13. Funeral service and burial was held on Sept. 14.
Cordele and Christine Messer. They welcomed their first child, a boy into this world on Sept. 8. They named him Emmanuel 'Manny' James Messer.
Midale's sixth annual Black Gold Bullnanza was held Sept. 8 and was very successful. A lot of hard work went into the new rodeo arena up behind the school. This year's entertainment had 17 bull riders, with Dusty Ephrom from Arcola taking first place, six junior bull riders with Matthew Lieppi winning and new this year was Mutton Bustin' with 24 kids taking part. The cabaret with Alex Runion's band as entertainment had a great turnout as well.
The hockey rink is hoping to have ice in by mid-October. The ice times have booked up quickly this year and there aren't many spots open from Monday to Thursday. The Mustangs won't have their schedule until the end of the month. There will be an initiation team and most likely a novice team as well. There will be more information and a registration night soon. Midale has a rec team also going to be scheduling one or two ice times each week.
School is back in full swing. Please remember to slow down in the school zone.
Midale Central School is asking all families to please pay their $30 yearbook fee as soon as possible. The purchase of one yearbook per family is necessary to guarantee the continuation of the yearbook at the school. Grade 10 students in Food Studies need to pay $20 as well.
Midale Central School will be participating in the Terry Fox Walk/Jog which will be held on Thursday, Sept. 27. Pledge sheets will be sent home this week and should be returned on or by the 27th. Parents and guardians are more than welcome to come and walk/jog with their children.
Senior boys volleyball will be running practices on Monday from 5:15 to 7:15 p.m. and Wednesdays from 3:15 to 5:15 p.m. Their first tournament is this weekend in Carnduff.
If you have any gently used or "garage sale" items that you would like to donate to Jessy Forrester-Tytlandsvik's Grade 3 and 4 class, please bring them to the school. They are having a rewards system in their classroom and the students will be able to purchase the donated items.
Midale Bethlehem's Lutheran Church will be holding Sunday School at 11am for children ages 3 to 12. They will sing songs, play games, crafts, listen to stories and learn about God and Jesus. Spread the word and bring your friends. Parents are welcome to attend. Youth group will be starting up in the fall.
Former Midale resident, Evelyn (Lindbolm) Jones passed away on Sept. 6 at the age of 83. Evelyn was a resident of the Wadena Nursing Home.
Midale Museum members greatly appreciate the help of the many people that came out to work the pancake breakfast, play music for the people, drive and take care of the tractors, trucks and equipment and those who hauled the bales. Without all the volunteers, the museum would not be able to provide the public with the threshing days. The members will be having a meeting near the end of the month and if any of you are interested in joining and helping out, please talk to a member and they will let you know when a date has been set. The museum is hoping to get their "Museum in a Suitcase" up and running soon. This will be items from the museum taken around to schools in the area. They will show them to the children and explain how they work, what they were used for and give the general history of the items. Carl Hauglum's wife, Margaret is now showing her art work in Weyburn at the Weyburn Credit Union's Art Gallery. Margaret's show is called "Good Old Days" with both oil and watercolor paintings being displayed. The "Good Old Days" is a series of eleven paintings of farms from the past. There are some harvest scenes as well as some farms and animals as well. The show will run through September and throughout October as well.
