Midale (cpd) - A SADD speaker, Joey Cowan, came and spoke to the students in Grades 6 to 12 on Dec. 10. Joey knows about the effects of impaired driving first-hand. As an Addictions Counselor he has helped others deal with the after effects of impaired driving collisions. Joey also has personal experience with the issue having lost a close friend and family member in an impaired driving collision.
The issue of impaired driving continues to have deadly consequences on roads, and they are devastating and long lasting. Joey's enthusiasm for helping others through these types of traumatic experiences and for helping people face the issue of addiction are highlighted in his concise and commanding presentation. His outstanding ability to communicate with young people and help them open themselves up on a genuine emotional level assisted in making this a learning experience that was both powerful and memorable. In addition to his counseling portfolio, Joey is a co-facilitator in the Applied Counseling Certificate Program at the University of Manitoba.
