Report from the Weyburn Police Service for the week of November 18 to 24:
During the reporting period, the Weyburn Police Service attended to 89 calls for service.
*Motorists are reminded that police presence and traffic enforcement will increase as the holiday season approaches.
*On November 24, police received a number of calls of cattle running at large near the Livestock Exchange. Police attended to the area and assisted livestock employees in rounding up some of the cattle and slowing traffic. A few minor accidents were reported and one cow was euthanized due to the injuries it had received.
*Police observed a vehicle being driven in an erratic manner, almost hitting the police vehicle before being stopped. The driver exhibited signs of impairment and was brought to the police station, where the investigation determined he was over .08. The 44-year-old male driver was charged with impaired driving and exceeding .08. He will be appearing in court later in December.
*On November 23, police observed a vehicle being driven in an erratic manner. The vehicle was stopped shortly after and a 25-year-old Weyburn male was charged with speeding, disobeying stop signs and driving without a valid license. The vehicle was also seized.
*Police responded to a motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Coteau Avenue and Foster Street. The accident was caused after a vehicle, which had stopped to make a turn, was struck from behind by another vehicle. There were no injuries though one vehicle received sufficient damage to require it to be towed from the scene. A 27-year-old Weyburn male was charged with exceeding a reasonable and safe speed.
*Police attended to a report of a hit and run that had occurred in the Tim Horton's parking lot. Witnesses to the incident described the suspect vehicle as a 2002 to 2005 Chevrolet Extended Cab truck, red in color. The incident remains under investigation.
*Police received a report of a theft of money from a local hotel. When the clerk was distracted, a patron reached behind a desk and stole cash. The incident remains under investigation.
*On November 21, police responded to a fight outside of the Boston Pizza restaurant. After they had separated those involved, an investigation determined that no criminal charges were warranted and the individuals were sent on their separate ways. During the course of this investigation, a 19-year old-male was observed to have open liquor and was charged under the Alcohol and Gaming Act.
*Police received a call from a school safety patrol officer at a local school, who reported three vehicles driving through an area where the school crossing guards were stopping traffic to allow children to safely cross the road. Police are investigating and will be trying to determine the identities of the drivers involved and the circumstances of the incident. Motorists are reminded to use caution in school zones and obey the directions of school guards. They are stopping traffic to increase the safety of the school children.
*On November 19, police attended to an accident which had occurred near the Weyburn Comprehensive School. The investigation determined a 17-year-old male had been driving and lost control due to speed and the conditions of the road, hitting two parked vehicles. There were no injuries, though one vehicle had to be towed from the scene due to extensive damage. The male driver was charged with exceeding a reasonable and safe speed.
*On November 18, police were called to a local hotel after receiving reports of a fight in the hallway. On arrival the police located a number of individuals who had been involved in the altercation. The investigation determined that one individual, who was extremely intoxicated, was the instigator. The male resisted arrest but was eventually taken into custody and lodged in cells until sober. The 22- year-old male was charged with resisting arrest and intoxicated in a public place. He will be attending court in December.
