Mayor Debra Button cuts the ribbon to officially open the new accessible playground equipment at Elks Park on Thursday morning. Nancy Styles of the parks board, and Coun. Winston Bailey holding Xavier Haider. The original equipment at Elks Park had been damaged by an arsonist, and was replaced with new accessible equipment and a new rubber surface that can accommodate those in wheelchairs. The equipment is fully accessible so a child in a wheelchair can go up to the top of the structure. The cost of this new accessible playground was just under $150,000. The crumbled rubber that was formerly used here was moved by city workers over to the playground at Laing Crescent.
