Excitement surrounds the employees and management of the Wor-Kin Shop and SARCAN as the new location starts to take shape.
Wor-Kin Shop Executive Director Andria Brady says the two warehouse buildings, one to house the Vocational Training Centre, and the other to house SARCAN, have a projected move in date in the fall.
"We're planning for SARCAN to be open a sometime in the fall and we'll plan a grand opening for around then," she said.
The new location is at 1800 Ebel Road, which is off of 16th Street near Highway 39. DSI Contracting has been working on the location since March and is now just finishing up the interior of the two warehouses.
When these warehouses are completed, they will be a combined size of 11,000 square feet.
The brand new, fully modern SARCAN Recycling Depot will be more than twice the size of the current space designed to incorporate enhanced customer service lanes, enhanced material handling capabilities, and improved staff facilities.
"SARCAN will have four customer chutes plus a back entry for bulk deliveries, electronics and paint," she said. "The customer waiting area will be the size of the entire depot now," she said.
The new Vocational Training Centre will house the agency's Woodshop along with the Paper & Cardboard recycling operations; providing employment opportunities for those with intellectual disabilities, and supplying products and services to Weyburn and southeast Saskatchewan.
The third building on the lot, the Day Program building, has a projected opening of next spring.
The Wor Kin Shop raised $500,000 to the capital costs through fundraising and two large anonymous donations to add to the Government of Saskatchewan's $1 million in capital funding for the new facility.
The current location on East Avenue has been listed for sale or rent, said Brady.
