There are 180 new cases of COVID-19 to report in Saskatchewan on May 22, bringing the provincial total to 45,490 cases. There are no new COVID cases in the Weyburn area, with active cases now down to 20 in the Weyburn area, and 152 active cases in the southeast region.
Two new deaths are reported today. One death was reported in the 50-59 age group and one death was in the 80+ age group, both from the South Central zone.
The new cases are located in the following zones: Far North West, 2; Far North East, 1; Northwest, 22; North Central, 23; Northeast, 6; Saskatoon, 54; Central West, 4; Central East, 17; Regina, 19; Southwest, 9; South Central, 1; and Southeast, 18. Four cases are pending residence information.
Recoveries total 43,194, including 184 new recoveries as of May 22, and 1,770 cases are considered active.
There are 120 people in hospital, and 93 people are receiving inpatient care: Northwest, 5; North Central, 5; Saskatoon, 34; Central East, 4; Regina, 38; Southwest, 1; South Central, 2; and Southeast, 4. Twenty-seven people are in intensive care: North Central, 2; Saskatoon, 11; and Regina, 14.
There were 3,429 COVID-19 tests processed in Saskatchewan on May 21, including 248 tests in the southeast region.
An additional 14,801 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been given in Saskatchewan, bringing the total number of vaccines administered in the province to 645,384, with 650 doses administered in the southeast region.
Seventy-six per cent of those over the age of 40 have received their first dose, 69 per cent of those 30+ have received their first dose, and 62 per cent of those 18+ have received their first dose.
Re-opening the province is based on the rapid expansion and delivery of larger volumes of COVID-19 vaccine, with the expectation that all residents in Saskatchewan over the age of 12 will have an opportunity to receive their first dose of vaccine by the end of May 2021. It will occur in three steps, with approximately three weeks between each step. The first step of the re-opening plan is set to take effect on Sunday, May 30.
