Noisy party complaints result in one charge

During the past week, the Weyburn Police Service attended to 157 calls for service. There were seven noisy party complaints, with one incident resulting in a male being charged under the noise bylaw.

*On July 14, police received a complaint of a vehicle having been stolen from a local hotel while the owner was working. The vehicle was later located back near the hotel and the subsequent investigation determined that a person known to the victim had stolen the vehicle. A 30-year-old male was charged with theft of a motor vehicle and will be making his first appearance in court on July 24.

*Police attended to a two vehicle motor vehicle accident at the intersection of 14th Street NE and Coteau Avenue after a half ton truck failed to stop for a stop sign and collided with a construction truck. The driver of the half ton truck was charged under the Highway Traffic act with failing to obey a stop sign.

*Police observed a fight start between two males in the vicinity of a downtown bar. After police broke up the fight, two 21-year-old males were charged under the fighting bylaw.

*On July 13, police assisted with traffic control at the second block of Sixth Street after a report that a delivery truck had caught some overhead lines and pulled them down. SaskPower, SaskTel and Access attended and repaired the downed lines.

*Police received a complaint of a hit and run that had occurred at a downtown restaurant. The matter remains under investigation.

*Police received a complaint from a local business, reporting a break and enter. The suspect(s) entered the business and damaged the computer system that controls the operation of the business. The matter remains under investigation.

*Police investigated a shoplifting complaint from a local business. As a result of the information supplied, a suspect vehicle was later located with a large amount of stolen property. Two males, ages 17 and 18 were charged with theft under $5,000 and will be making their first court appearance in August.

*On July 12, police received a complaint of a break and enter as well as an assault in the northeast area of the city. A 15 year old male had been assaulted by two individuals who are apparently known to the victim. During the incident, several items were stolen from a backyard shed. The victim was treated for minor injuries at the hospital. The investigation into this matter continues.

*On July 11, a police bike patrol member observed a vehicle being driven in an erratic matter in the northeast area of the city. The officer was able to catch up to the vehicle and have the driver pull over. A 17-year-old female was charged with impaired driving and driving while over .08. She will be making her first court appearance in August.

*Police were dispatched to a two vehicle motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Third Street SE and Highway #39. There were no injuries and one driver was charged under the highway traffic act for driving without due care and attention.

*On July 10, police were called to a street in the northeast area of Weyburn regarding a complaint of mischief. The tires had been flattened on three vehicles. The subsequent investigation determined this was in relation to an ongoing neighborhood dispute. A 22-year-old Weyburn male was charged with tampering with vehicles and will be appearing in court in September.

*Police received a complaint concerning a number of youths causing a disturbance and knocking over garbage cans in the area of the Souris School grounds. Police located a group of individuals and one youth was issued a ticket for a minor possessing liquor. The group was dispersed.

*On July 9, police observed a male on a motorcycle accelerate quickly and do a catwalk from the area of Fourth Street and Coteau Avenue. The male was stopped a short distance away and charged with stunting under the Highway Traffic Act.

*On July 8, a resident of the northeast area of Weyburn located and turned into police a variety of stolen property. The investigation determined the articles had been stolen from a truck which had been parked in the area. The property was returned to the owner, although a GPS unit was still missing. The matter remains under investigation.
