Nominations now open for Weyburn Women of the Year

Locals can now nominate women in their communities for the 2012 Weyburn Women of the Year Awards. It was announced Feb. 6 at the Weyburn Legion Hall that nominations are now open for the 12th annual event.



Locals can now nominate women in their communities for the 2012 Weyburn Women of the Year Awards. It was announced Feb. 6 at the Weyburn Legion Hall that nominations are now open for the 12th annual event.

Residents will have until Friday, March 9 to nominate women in one of four categories. The Saskpower Workplace Excellence Award will be presented to a woman who has excelled in the workplace by displaying a superior effort and a desire to significantly improve her profession.

The Access Communications Exceptional Entrepreneur Award looks to recognize a woman for exceptional leadership or innovation in starting, operating, or owning a business and remains active in that business.

The Investors Group Young Woman of Distinction Award will be presented to a young woman between the ages of 18 and 30 who has made a significant contribution to the life of her community and who demonstrates a capacity for leadership.

The final award is the Quota International of Weyburn Community Service Award. This award will be presented to a woman who, as a volunteer, has demonstrated a commitment to enrich her community, alleviate social inequalities, strengthen volunteer participation, and to educate or provide leadership in the community.

Nomination forms will be available at Brady's House of Flowers. Nominations can also be made on-line for the first time. Forms can now be filled out on discoverweyburn.com.

Residents are encouraged to nominate women who have made significant contributions to Weyburn and area. This includes women who may have won a Women of the Year award in the past but still deserves recognition. All those who are nominated will be presented at the nominators tea in March and at the awards luncheon on Monday, March 26.
