On February 3, Quota International of Weyburn, in partnership with the Weyburn Credit Union, launched the 15th annual Women of the Year Awards. A ceremony held at the Legion Hall kicked off the official opening of nominations for the prestigious awards.
"Quota International of Weyburn takes pleasure in honouring the women of Weyburn. This Quota project raises community awareness of our club and work we do locally. We are pleased that the Weyburn Credit Union, Access Communications and Investors Group continue to join us in this venture," said Quota President Carmen Vilness.
The four separate awards include the Weyburn Credit Union Workplace Excellence Award, M. Isabelle Butters Quota International of Weyburn Community Service Award, Access Communications Exceptional Entrepreneur Award and the Investors Group Young Woman of Distinction Award.
"A committee will select four women from among the nominees to receive awards," said Vilness. "The awards acknowledge the contributions of women and it provides us with an opportunity to raise funds for two worthwhile areas of service - disadvantaged women and children and for hearing and speech impaired persons."
Nominations, which officially opened at the ceremony, are being accepted until March 4, 2015. The nomination forms are available at Brady's House of Flowers. Anyone who is requiring information regarding the forms or the application process can contact Theresa Girardin at (306) 842-3589 or Karla Kennedy at (306) 842-7589. The tickets for the awards luncheon, to be held on March 30, will be available at Brady's starting March 23. The price per ticket will be $30.
The 2015 Women of the Year luncheon will feature guest speaker Dr. Dale Dewar.
"We are delighted to announce our keynote speaker will be Dr. Dale Dewar. Dr. Dewar is an associate professor in the Department of Family Medicine at the University of Saskatchewan and former Executive Director of Physicians for Global Survival. She worked for short periods in Inuvik, NWT and Churchill, Manitoba, and worked for Ile-a-la-Crosse as a physician and in Saskatoon as director of Northern Medical Services and has been an active member of the International Committee of the Society of Rural Physicians of Canada," stated Vilness.
Several sponsors have stepped up to support the luncheon already but more are always welcome.
"We are very pleased such a great group of sponsors are involved and their support in this event," said sponsorship chairperson Jo-anne Bannatyne-Cugnet. If anyone is interested in sponsoring this event, contact Jo-anne at (306)861-6798.
