For the first time in more than a month, a case of COVID-19 has been reported in the southeast region.
In its daily report for Sunday, the Ministry of Health said there were eight new cases in the province, including the one in the southeast. There are three new cases in Saskatoon, two in the central east, one in Regina and one in the northwest.
The case for the southeast is in Southeast Zone 2. Kenosee Lake would be the closest community to Estevan in Zone 2. Most of the communities in Zone 2 are in relatively close proximity to the Trans-Canada Highway to the north and the Manitoba border to the east.
There have been 12 cases of COVID-19 diagnosed in the southeast since the virus came to Saskatchewan back in March.
Of the 1,651 reported cases, 48, or 2.9 per cent, are considered active.
The number of recoveries remains at 1,579, or 95.6 per cent of those diagnosed with the virus.
One person is in hospital in intensive care in Saskatoon.
There have been 424 cases from the south area, with 217 in the southwest and 195 in the south central, in addition to the 12 from the southeast.
As for the rest of the province, 353 cases are from the far north area (347 far northwest, six far northeast), 273 cases are from the Saskatoon area, 268 cases are from the north area (131 northwest, 71 north central, 66 northeast), 200 cases are from the central area (164 central west, 36 central east) and 133 cases from the Regina area.
Of the 1,651 cases in the province, 251 cases are travellers, 834 are community contacts (including mass gatherings), 488 have no known exposures and 78 are under investigation by local public health.
Sixty-six cases are healthcare workers; however, the source of the infections may not be related to healthcare in all instances.
There have been 276 cases involve people 19 years of age and under, 535 cases are in the 20-39 age range, 502 are in the 40-59 age range, 280 are in the 60-79 age range and 58 are in the 80-plus range.
Fifty-one per cent of the cases are females and 49 per cent are males.
Twenty-four deaths related to COVID-19 have been reported.
To date, 148,876 COVID‐19 tests have been performed in Saskatchewan. As of Sept. 4, when other provincial and national numbers were available from the Public Health Agency of Canada, Saskatchewan’s per capita rate was 105,789 people tested per million population. The national rate was 152,592 people tested per million population.
There were 2,081 COVID-19 tests performed in Saskatchewan on Saturday.
