Early bird tickets are now available for the huge reunion, planned for all the Weyburn Comp classes from the 1950s to the 1990s, which is being planned in Weyburn for the end of July in 2016.
“We have been overwhelmed to the response on the website to early bird tickets,” said Bryan Onstad, one of the organizations for the event. Originally set in motion by Bryan, Brad Blakely and Ray Niro, the goal is to make the event Weyburn’s biggest school reunion ever.
To make it a huge celebration, and a city-wide event, the reunion is open to anyone in Weyburn and district to attend. Interested residents do not have to be an alumni of the Comp.
Tickets are being sold for $50 for both events, or $30 for individual tickets. Regular prices will be $40 for individual tickets after the early bird ticket deadline. These tickets are available on the reunion website, located at: www.reunion2016.com.
In addition, special commemorative reunion 2016 hats and T-shirts are also being sold.
To help connect with former students, people can fill out their information at the website: www.reunion2016.com. Any students who attended the Comp during the time frame are welcome to attend the reunion.
Some special events for the reunion have been announced. During the Friday night, July 29, there will be a “Tribute Night” at the Cugnet Centre.
There will tributes to former teachers, past leaders of the community, and other residents. This is still being developed.
Canada’s best show band, “March Hare” is secured for an evening show. Their specialty is walking through the decades with a musical memory through the years in a show called: “Thru the Decades”. This night is still being planned, but with 1,400 seats organizers are a little worried this will fill up quickly.
“Our Facebook page is approaching 1,600 people so tickets for Friday night may be at a premium,” said Onstad.
Then on Saturday night, July 30, there is a plan for a dinner and big dance at Tom Zandee Sports Arena and Weyburn Curling Club. Weyburn’s band “Switch” will add entertainment, with “March Hare” performing for a second night.
The members have stated a desire to develop a Reunion 2016 community fund to provide sponsorships and donations to health care, the arts, education, agriculture, commerce, recreation and sport. This is being worked on.
Colleen Maas Benjamin and Teresa Maas Connelly have worked hard on the memorial tribute to many of the students who have passed away.
Other committee members who are helping with organizing include: Bonnie Sidloski, Brent Mann, Jeff Heisler, Sherry Doerr and Merv Istace.
Team Captains are helping to organize the large group by years: Sharon Lethbridge, Pat Klein, Ken Murray, Cathy Arndt, Sharon Forseth, Elain Anderson, Heather Marshall, Kelly Linnell, Brad Blakely, Bryan Onstad, Ray Niro, Barb Welland, Sherry G Doerr, Marilyn Fowler, Dena Scott, Darren Neuberger, Tara Neuberger, Shelley Norman, Catrina Quist Moldenhauer, Rhonda Crozier Hemphill, Shawna Seitz Lavender, Lynn Quist, Cara Watts and Jeff Heisler.
They have got members from Albania, United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, and many from the United States. The majority though still live in western Canada with Weyburn, Regina, Saskatoon and Calgary being the three most popular cities.
Most grad years from 1960 to 2000 have individual Facebook sub-groups. Individual classes who are marking a special celebration of their own, will be able to arrange private functions on the Friday or Saturday of the 2016 reunion.
