New green space at the Dominion Heights subdivision in the form of Padwick Park is on its way and should be completed by this summer.

Site superintendant Wes Reinheller told the Mercury, during an interview on April 16, that sewer and water lines are being installed for the bathrooms, which will be attached to a picnic shelter.

“There will also be all sorts of water features,” Reinheller said, referring to the splash pad that will be located next to the picnic shelter and the children’s play structure, all of which pertains to the 22-acre Phase 3 portion of the development.

He noted the four-plex units around the park are selling fast, and that construction on the next condo building will begin in the near future.

“Our goal is to build community. We want to build life back into this area and have it open by the summer, weather permitting,” added Reinheller.

Padwick Park has been a “vision in the making” for the past three years, according to Jason Fleury, president of Trimount Developments.

“Obviously, with the spray features and the playground structure, we’re really excited in turning that back into an amenity that can be used, for years, by the entire community,” Fleury said.

In addition to these park features, Fleury said he’s proud of the park’s accessibility and its diversified pathways that will be surrounded by unique landscaping.

The development of the $500,000 park – a total to which was donated by Boardwalk Properties and Trimount – alongside the continued work on the Dominion Heights subdivision, has gone relatively smooth since Trimount Estevan Developments Ltd. launched their latest venture in the Energy City in 2012, said Fleury.

Kirby Finley, branch manager of Scheffer Andrew L.T.D. and the subdivision’s lead engineer, said aside from a minor water line connection problem, everything is going according to plan.

“The city has been very receptive and, hopefully, the economy will pick up and we can continue with the rest of the developments,” he said.

Over the past four years, Trimount has built 300 homes. The downturn in oil, however, has caused some inconveniences, Fleury said.

“We’ve kind of scaled back a little bit due to the oil industry and waiting to see when the economy recovers. But we’re still getting great traffic and pretty good sales,” he said. “We want to finish out the Parkview townhomes site and continue to develop on our other lands.”

The remaining phases of Dominion Heights, located north of Padwick Park, are moving forward according to plan, Fleury said. Phase 4 has been finalized and is awaiting registration with the city, while Phase 5, 6, 7 and 8 are still at the concept stages of development.

“You make the adjustments based on what the market is, so if single-family houses are the best vouch, then that’s what you do,” he said.

Fleury added Trimount is in talks with the City to potentially obtain lots near St. Joseph’s Hospital for the construction of single-family homes.
