Pangman (cpd) - The Pangman/Ogema Performing Art Program production will be held on Saturday, June 22 in the school gym. Items needed for this production are podiums, large boxes, wooden bats, old CDs and records, left-over paint of any colour, bell bottom suits, guitars, old drum sets or parts of one, Elvis costumes or clothes that could be used for this, glasses frames, old style phone receiver, record player, cow bell, large logs, wigs, plywood, unused two-by-fours and cloth material of any colour or pattern which is at least a meter long. Please let the school know if they can lend or donate any of the items or contact Joyce Walters in Ogema.
The Pangman kindergarten to Grade 5 students will be motoring to Weyburn to attend a clay workshop on Wednesday, May 15.
There will be no school at the Pangman school on Monday, May 13 as it is a teachers' planning day.
There will also be no school on Monday, May 20 as it is Victoria Day.
On Friday, May 10, the Ladies' Auxiliary will be holding a Mother's Day at Sunnyview Place. The afternoon will start at 2 p.m. with angel food, strawberries and ice cream. Coffee, tea and juice will be served. All families and friends of the residents are welcome. There will also be a cake walk and a silver collection.
Student of the month awards were awarded to Grayson West for kindergarten to Grades 2, Caleb White for Grades 3 to 5, Jordan Bedard for Grades 6 to 8 and Christie Jesse for Grades 11 to 12.
In co-operation with Sun Country Health Region, Pangman school hosted Brain Walk, a project of the Acquired Brain Injury Partnership.
Through demonstration, the students learned about injury prevention; the difficulties one might experience after a brain injury and the effects of alcohol and drugs on the brain.
"Everyone has the power to help or hurt others," said Luc Mullinder to the Pangman School students, staff and community member assembled on April 10, the Red Cross Day of Pink. Mullinder, a former Roughrider, regularly addresses school audiences reinforcing the message that everyone deserves to be safe from bullying and harassment. He spoke about his own challenges as a youth in a new country.
Mullinder's visit to the Pangman School and community also encouraged people to report Random Acts of Kindness. The Pangman School RespectED tea had placed kindness buckets at local businesses for community members to record random acts of kindness.
The kindness ballots were tallied and the results were announced at the April 10 school assembly. The Canadian Red Cross Pink Shirt Walk in town topped off the day.
Miss Cannon's students are planning their Kenosee trip and are working hard to offset some of the costs. On April 19, a movie night was held bringing in $220.85 to top of the $226.85 proceeds of their bake sale and raffle held in February.
The Pangman School Floor Hockey Team were undefeated in four games at the Floor Hockey Festival in Ogema on April 13. The team consisted of Layne Lillejord, Tanner Rowland, Nathaniel Tichkowsky, Jacey Rowland, Goalie Layton Kimball-Krauss and coach Laury Ryan.
Some of the Pangman School students rookie, junior and senior badminton competitions were recently played. Payton Nyhus claimed second place in the girls singles at the Weyburn Junior High School Tournament on April 13. Hayley Kimball placed third, Jordan Bedard took sixth and Luis Ruiz Reyes and Johnny Friesen finished fourth in boys doubles.
On Tuesday, April 30, six residents from Sunnyview Place played 10 frames participating in their weekly Bean Bag tournament. Doris Sambrook won first place with a score of 60 points, Helen Clark placed second with a score of 59 points and Ada Murray came in third place with a score of 57 points.
On Wednesday, May 1, nine residents from Sunnyview Place played 10 frames in their weekly bowling tournament. Ada Murray won first place with a score of 92, Effie Devine and Mary Martin tied for second place with a score of 79 points and Doris Sambrook placed third with a score of 66 points. George David scored 99 points for the men.
