The Weyburn Police Service has received numerous complaints of fraudulent calls being received in Weyburn.
The fraud is perpetrated through a conversation where the caller identifies themselves as their son and they have been in a car accident.
The story continues that the vehicle they hit is a foreign diplomat’s and the caller will then supposedly give the phone to a lawyer or the police who speak of the seriousness of the incident.
They state they need to have them pay for the insurance immediately or their son will be charged criminally. The caller will ask for damages to be paid to Western Union and funds to be sent to Lebanon.
Members of the public are reminded to not send money to anyone you do not know and if you receive this call or a similar one, contact your local police.
