Police arrest man for assault charge

In the early morning hours of Dec. 8 the Weyburn Police Service received a direct call from a 28-year-old female victim about an assault in progress at her residence.

Although the residence was outside of city limits, owing to the urgency of the matter members of the Weyburn Police Service responded. Upon arrival a 43-year-old male person was found to have suffered significant injuries and was transported by EMS to the Weyburn General Hospital. A 35-year-old male was taken into custody without incident at the scene. Weyburn Police members remained on-scene until the RCMP arrived and are assisting in the investigation.

The Weyburn Police Service received a report regarding the sexual exploitation of a 17-year-old female on Sunday.

Subsequent investigation revealed that a 40-year-old male was exercising undue influence over the 17-year-old victim in exchange for sexual services. The matter is still under investigation.  Neither the suspect nor the victim are from Weyburn.

As a result of a traffic stop on Saturday, a 46-year-old male was charged with driving while suspended and driving an unregistered vehicle. This was the second such incident for the accused in recent weeks. The vehicle was seized and impounded pursuant to SGI legislation.

The Weyburn Police Service were dispatched to a report of yelling and screaming coming from an apartment building on Dec. 2. Upon arrival it was found that a domestic dispute was in progress between a 21-year-old male and a 19-year-old female.  The matter was mediated without further involvement from the police.

The Weyburn Police Service received a complaint of a suspicious vehicle selling TV’s from a local business parking lot on Dec. 3. The vehicle could not be located.

Although this may have been a legitimate enterprise we urge anyone encountering such an opportunity to be diligent in their approach to the purchase.

The Weyburn Police Service were dispatched to a report of a fight at a local pub on Dec. 3. Involved were a 35-year-old male and a 24-year-old male. The matter was mediated without need for further police involvement.

The Weyburn Police Service was dispatched to a report of a fight at a local pub on Dec. 4.  Involved was a 24-year-old male suspect and a 26-year-old male victim. The victim did not wish to provide further information making the laying of charges difficult. The matter did not require further police intervention.

The Weyburn Police Service were called to a local hotel regarding a disturbance being caused in the lobby on Dec. 4.  A 29-year-old male was upset at the services being offered by the hotel. The suspect, a hotel guest, was escorted to his room with no further need for police involvement.

The Weyburn Police Service received a report from a male person fearing for his safety on Dec. 4. The investigation determined that the person was a user of crystal meth and may have been suffering a delusional episode. He was assisted to the extent possible.

The Weyburn Police Service received a call from a local taxi company about an unruly passenger on Friday. As a result of police involvement a 21-year-old female was arrested at the scene and lodged in cells until sober.  No charges will be laid.

Throughout the month of December the Weyburn Police Service members will be out in full force conducting drinking and driving enforcement checks.  Make sure if you are going to be at a function and will be consuming alcohol that you make arrangements for a safe ride home.
