Report from the Weyburn Police Service for the week of March 18 to 22:
During the reporting period, police received 72 calls for service.
*On March 22, police responded to a call for assistance at a local hotel lobby where a person was unconscious. A 52-year-old male from Regina was arrested for being drunk in public and was lodged in cells until sober.
*The Weyburn Police Service, Weyburn Fire Department and Sask Energy responded to a report of a damaged gas metre at a local business. The area was secured until Sask Energy quickly determined that there was no leakage and the damage was abated.
*Police responded to a report of a two-vehicle motor vehicle collision at Highway #39 and Third Street. Injuries were minor and the individual people got themselves to the hospital. The subsequent investigation showed that a 30-year-old male driver from Regina was issued a ticket for disobeying a stop sign.
*On March 21, police were called in the early morning hours to a local bar regarding the theft of a vehicle. Subsequent investigation showed this vehicle was driven a short distance, where it was parked and set on fire, which caused extensive damage to the vehicle. As a result of the investigation, a 35-year-old male from Virden, Manitoba was arrested and has been charged with a number of offenses.
*Police were called to mediate a domestic situation between a 29-year-old female and a 26-year-old male. No further police action was required.
*A 26-year-old male came to the police station to report the theft of his vehicle. He was intoxicated and belligerent, which resulted in his arrest for uttering threats. He is facing charges.
*On March 20, an off-duty police officer reported an erratic driver being observed at an active crosswalk. A plate number was obtained and the matter is still under investigation. The vehicle was not from Weyburn.
*Police received a report of actual physical bullying occurring on the walk home from school. This matter is still under investigation.
*On March 19, police were called to a report of a domestic dispute. They were able to mediate the matter without need for further involvement.
*On March 18, police began investigating a number of reports of using a particular social media sight to bully teenage females. We wish to remind everyone that bullying of any kind; cyber bullying or actual physical bullying, is wrong and can be dealt with by charges under either the bylaw or criminal code as is the case.
*As a result of the efforts of a number of store owners and the quick work of the police a group of two people from an organized shoplifting ring were identified and arrested. Two 28-year-old males from Regina are facing a number of theft related charges. A large amount of the property was recovered.
*In an unrelated incident, police investigated a report of an internal theft from a local business. This resulted in a 19-year-old male being charged with theft.
*Police remind drivers that although side streets may have become very rutted and difficult to drive, each driver is still responsible for the safe and legal operation of their vehicle.
