During the reporting period of July 29 to August 5, the Weyburn Police Service attended to 158 calls for service. As there has been an increase in reported damage to vehicles parked on city streets, police are asking members of the public to report any suspicious activity or individuals in an attempt to reduce these incidents.
*On August 5, police were dispatched to a report of a fire in the compound of a downtown business, where they discovered a vehicle owned by the business to be on fire and fully involved. The Weyburn Fire Department responded to extinguish the blaze. Subsequent investigation revealed that in addition to the vehicle fire, a second vehicle owned by the business had been damaged. Had the fire spread to nearby material, the resulting blaze could have had significant consequences for neigh-bouring businesses. The fire is being treated as suspicious and remains under investigation.
*On August 3, police received a complaint from a local business of a male who had passed a number of NSF cheques. The suspect was located a short time later and arrested. He was also the suspect in fraudulently obtaining food and lodging from earlier in July. The 26-year-old male was charged with numerous counts of fraud as well as with fraudulently obtaining food and lodging. He will be making his first court appearance on these charges later in August.
*Police were called to the area of a downtown bar where a 27-year-old male was located a short time later and arrested for being intoxicated in public. He was lodged in cells until sober.
*On August 2, police received a complaint of a window being broken at St. Michael's School. There are currently no suspects.
*Police received a complaint of a theft of a donation jar from a local business. As a result of the investigation a 53-year-old Weyburn male was charged with theft under $5,000. He will be making his first court appearance later this month.
*Police attended to a domestic disturbance in the River Park campground, as a result a 46-year-old male was arrested for being drunk in public and was lodged in cells until sober.
*On August 1, police received a complaint of a stolen vehicle. The owner had contacted police to advise that his truck was not parked where he had left it the night before. The vehicle had sustained damage to the front end. The vehicle was seized by police and the incident remains under investigation.
*Police attended a downtown establishment after receiving a complaint of a patron threatening to do damage to the business. Police arrested a 48-year-old male for being intoxicated in a public place. He was released when sober.
*On July 31, police received a complaint of a damaged truck. The vehicle had been parked in the downtown area and it appeared someone had jumped on the hood. No suspects, the incident remains under investigation.
*Police attended to a two vehicle accident at the intersection of Government Road and Bison Avenue. There were no injuries. It appears the accident occurred when the Westbound vehicle on Bison Avenue pulled out before safe and struck the northbound vehicle that was travelling on Government Road.
*Police received a complaint of a number of kids in the area of Tatagwa Parkway who were causing a disturbance and being very loud. Police attended and warned the individuals involved.
*On July 30, police received a report of a mischief to two parked vans. The vans had been parked in the 1100 block of Park Avenue and had the mirrors broken on both. Damage is estimated to be over $1,000. There are currently no suspects and the incident remains under investigation.
*After receiving a complaint of a disturbance near the grandstand at the agribition grounds, police attended and located three teenagers, who were warned and sent on their way home.
*On July 29, patrolling police officers observed an unregistered vehicle. After stopping the vehicle, police noticed the driver had signs of impairment. The investigation determined the male had been drinking and driving but was not over .08. The 21-year-old male was given a three-day driving suspension and charged with driving an unregistered vehicle.
*Police received a report of a mischief to a parked car. The car had been parked in the 800 block of Souris Avenue and had a mirror damaged. There are currently no suspects and the incident remains under investigation.
