Police charge two men for trafficking

During the early morning hours of Dec. 20, EPS members arrested and charged a 21-year-old male with possession of five grams of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking. The street value of the cocaine was estimated at about $700.

A second 21-year-old man was charged for the same offense as well as being in possession of property obtained by crime and for having a weapon for a dangerous purpose. Police also confiscated $400 in Canadian currency, two cellular devices plus a handgun and a large hunting knife. 

The charges against the two were laid following a traffic stop in the 1100 block of Fourth Street. 

Cole Randy Stevenson, 21, of Estevan faces trafficking charges as well as another charge under the Alcohol and Gaming Regulations Act. 

Brandon Michael Oliver, formerly of Estevan and now a resident of Swift Current, was charged for possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking, possession of property obtained by crime and two counts of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose. Both men were released after appearing before a Justice of the Peace with the conditions of a court appearance in Feb. 2016.   

Estevan Police Service (EPS) members also dealt with assaults and other incidents in the days leading up to Christmas.

Police received a call through the report impaired drivers (RID) line from the Hitchcock area during the Dec. 14 night shift. Police attended and located the vehicle. The driver was not impaired, but an investigation is underway for distracted driving.

Members were also called to several domestic disturbance complaints during the night shift. All matters were resolved with police mediation and the parties involved being separated for the evening.

Police transported an individual to St. Joseph’s Hospital for assessment as there was evidence of depression.

Officers received a report on Dec. 14 of an individual breaching a conditional sentence order. The individual wasn’t located until the following evening and was arrested. He appeared in Estevan provincial court on Dec. 17.

Members also received a report of a sexual assault during the Dec. 14 night shift. The accused was arrested the following morning and released that night for court in February on one charge of sexual assault.

Police arrested a woman during the Dec. 15 day shift who was travelling through the city. She was subject to outstanding arrest warrants from Regina and Broadview. She was held in custody and remanded that night for court in Yorkton on Dec. 18.

Police were called to several driving complaints during the Dec. 15 night shift. They arrested an Estevan male on outstanding charges from British Columbia. He has been remanded in custody to be returned to B.C. to answer to his charges.

They apprehended another Estevan man on outstanding charges from Alberta. He has been remanded in custody to be returned to Alberta to answer to his charges.

Police were called to the Estevan Comprehensive School during the Dec. 18 day shift for a fight on school property. As a result of an investigation, a 15-year-old male has been charged with assault. The male was not a student at the school and has been banned from the property.

A 41-year-old Estevan male was charged with assault and mischief during the Dec. 18 night shift, after members responded to a 911 hang-up call. The male was lodged in cells until sober and was to be released on conditions for court. While in cells, he threatened to kill a police officer, and is now facing charges for that incident.

Police responded to a dog bite complaint. A 12-year-old was bitten by a dog while delivering papers. The matter is still under investigation.

A 20-year-old woman was lodged in cells after being found intoxicated in a public place.

On Dec. 19, EPS members responded to a possible criminal harassment and erratic driving complaint. A suspect vehicle was located and the driver was spoken to and the matter remains under review. 

A 50-year-old man was detained in cells overnight for being intoxicated in public. 

Police also established an investigation into a report of an assault at a local convenience store.
