Police conduct traffic blitz and respond to variety of complaints

Report from the Weyburn Police Service for the week of December 12 to 18: During the reporting period, police received 82 calls for assistance. With the help of the RCMP, the Weyburn Police Service conducted two major traffic stops in the past week.

During the reporting period, police received 82 calls for assistance. With the help of the RCMP, the Weyburn Police Service conducted two major traffic stops in the past week.

*Residents are still receiving letters, phone calls and e-mails that are part of scams. Police are reminding persons not to give out any personal information to people claiming you have won prizes or needing your identification.

*On December 18, police attended to a domestic dispute in the 900 block of Third Street South. One person was taken from the home and no charges were laid.

*On December 17, approximately 600 vehicles were stop-checked. There were five charges laid under the traffic act, as well one person was arrested on outstanding warrants, but no charges were issued for drinking and driving.

*Police received a call about a person bleeding outside a business in the 10 block of 2nd Avenue South. Police were able to locate the subject, who had been walking to his hotel room from a restaurant when he slipped on the ice and hit his head. Subject was taken to the hospital to receive medical attention.

*A bar reported problems with a person refusing to leave. Police located the subject and removed him from the premises.

*Police were contacted regarding a person being assaulted in his home. Two persons entered a home in the 100 block of Laing Crescent and assaulted the owner. The owner went to the hospital for treatment. Investigation is ongoing.

*On December 16, police received a complaint of an assault. A female reported that a male had punched her while she was walking home. The suspect was located by police and found to be violating his under-taking order and he also had outstanding warrants from Alberta.

*On December 15, approximately 800 vehicles were stop-checked, but no drinking and driving charges or traffic charges were laid.

*Police stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation. Further investigation found the accused had been drinking. As a result the accused has been charged for driving while over .08 and impaired driving and will be making a court appearance in January.

*Police received a complaint of a missing person. Police were able to locate the subject's vehicle at a local business and the individual was located by his family the next day and returned home.

*On December 14, unknown persons cut throughout the fence of a business in the 1700 block of East Avenue. Once inside the compound, they removed a substantial amount of wire. Police are asking anyone with any information to contact police or contact Crime stoppers.

*A homeowner contacted police after discovering that someone had filled their mailbox with a powdery substance. Investigation is ongoing.

*On December 13, police received a report from a resident that while his vehicle was parked in a parking lot in the 10 block of First Avenue South, an unknown person struck the passenger side of the vehicle and left the scene.

*Police received a call of a home in the 500 block of Fifth Avenue North being broken into and a television and laptop computer were taken.

*Police received a call of a moose wondering in the area of Elks Park. Police located the moose and were able to chase it out of town.

*On December 12, police received a complaint of a suspicious person in an apartment block on 7th Avenue South. Police located a person sleeping in the furnace room. The person was removed from the building and given a ride to his residence.

*A person reported damage to his parked vehicle. The vehicle was parked in the 10 block of 11th Street and the back window had a bottle thrown through it.

*Some construction equipment was taken from a truck that was parked at Tatagwa.
