Report from the Weyburn Police Service for the week of May 27 to June 3:
During the reporting period, police responded to 145 calls for service.
*On June 3, police received a complaint of mischief done to a property. The previous evening, someone had thrown something and broken the home owner's front window. Investigation also found several of his solar lights had been broken. Investigation is ongoing.
*Police responded to a complaint about a group of people in Don Mitchell Park drinking beer. Police located a 19 year old male and issued him a ticket for drinking in public.
*Police received a complaint of two males causing problems outside a dance at the exhibition grounds. When officers arrived, they observed two males causing damage to a sign. A 24 year old male has been charged with mischief under $5,000 and a 25 year old male has been charged with mischief over $5,000 as well as resisting arrest. They will make a court appearance next month.
*On June 2, police were called to domestic disturbance in the northeast area of Weyburn. Alcohol was the main contributing factor in the conflict. Police mediated the situation and both parties stayed in the home.
*A 75 year old female was taken to hospital following a two vehicle accident. While stopped for a railway crossing, the vehicle the 75 year old person was in was struck from behind.
*Police received a complaint that an individual was assaulted in a civil dispute. The individual reported that while making a collection he was assaulted by the home owner. The incident is still under investigation.
*On June 1, police were dispatched to a fight in behind a local hotel. One person involved had left the scene prior to police arrival. The group was sent on their way without further incident.
*Police were dispatched to a fight in the 900 block of Bison Avenue. Police located two males aged 28 and 23 respectfully fighting in the street. Both were charges under the fighting bylaw and taken home.
*Police were called to a family dispute. Investigation revealed that a parent and child were arguing over rules and cell phones. Police were able to mediate the situation.
*On May 31, a 22 year old Weyburn male reported that during the night someone had stolen his truck from his back yard. Investigation revealed that the truck was involved in an accident with a mini-van at the intersection of #13 Highway and the Khedive turnoff. Further investigation found that the truck's owner had driven to Pangman and, at about midnight as he was leaving, he struck the back of the mini-van while it was parked on the shoulder of the highway. The driver was charged for lying to the police and for driving while disqualified under the criminal code. The accused will appear in court next month.
*On May 30, a 55 year old male from Weyburn was charged for leaving the stop sign before safe after causing a accident at the intersection of Government Road and First Avenue South. The accused was traveling east and struck a north bound car. Two occupants of the car were taken to the hospital complaining of minor injuries. One vehicle had to be towed from scene.
*On May 29, police responded to a minor accident in the 400 block of Souris Avenue. Parties exchanged information and were directed to attend insurance with the matter.
*A 28 year old male from Weyburn was charged with assault and resisting arrest as a result of police being dispatched to a home in northeast Weyburn regarding a domestic dispute. Police arrested and charged the male for assaulting his 26 year old female companion. The accused will be making a court appearance later this month.
*On May 28, police attended to a motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Alexander Street and 2nd Aveune One vehicle was towed from scene and there were no injuries.
*Police received a complaint from the mother of a 20 year old female being assaulted by her boyfriend. Investigation revealed that the female had been in conflict her boyfriend the previous evening. She indicated that she did not want police to pursue the matter.
*On May 27, police conducted a traffic stop on Railway Avenue. As a result, the driver, a 28 year old male, was given a 24 hour driving suspension for drinking and driving.
*Police received a complaint regarding an individual receiving unwanted text messages from another person. Police spoke to the individual responsible and advised them to have no further contact with the complainant.
*Police arrived at a local hotel to deal with a fight that had been reported, but the person who had initiated the conflict had left prior to police arrival. The individual could not be identified and there was no further police action required.
