Police encourage residents to clean up yards

Report from the Weyburn Police Service for the week of June 16 to 23: *On June 23, police attended a local residence in regard to a domestic dispute between a 19-year-old son and his 47-year-old mother.

Report from the Weyburn Police Service for the week of June 16 to 23:

*On June 23, police attended a local residence in regard to a domestic dispute between a 19-year-old son and his 47-year-old mother. Police observed several marijuana plants in the back of a truck that was parked in the alley by this residence. Marijuana was found to be that of the 19-year-old male and his 19-year-old friend. The males admitted that the cannabis was theirs and as a result, they were charged for possession.

*On June 22, police received a report that two dogs, owned by a 23-year-old local male, killed a cat owned by a 38-year-female. The matter is still under investigation.

*On June 21, police attended to a residence where a 45-year-old female required help removing an unwanted 42-year-old intoxicated and uncooperative female from her residence. This female was arrested and lodged in cells until she sobered.

*On June 20, while on Highway 39 near Weyburn, a citizen reported that he was following a semi that was swerving all over the road. Police located the semi-tractor and a 51-year-old male driver was charged under the Traffic Safety Act for driving without due care and attention.

*Police attended a domestic dispute between a 23-year-old female and a 40-year-old male. The situation was defused and parties were separated. Alcohol was found to be a factor.

*On June 19, police received a complaint that someone tried to pry their way in to the apartment building located at 104 Fifth Street but failed to gain entry. Damages to the door frame are minimal. The matter is still under investigation.

*A 33-year-old male cyclist was riding his bicycle, in the pedestrian crossing, eastbound across Sixteenth Street from the south service road. A 56-year-old male driver struck the cyclist, causing him to fall over. The cyclist reported minor injuries. No charges were laid.

*On June 18, police received a report about an intoxicated driver leaving a drive-thru restaurant. Police located the vehicle and found 21-year-old male driver to be intoxicated. He was arrested and charged under the Criminal Code.

*On June 17, police received a report to watch for an erratic driver on Highway 39 coming in from Yellow Grass. The vehicle was located and a 23-year-old male driver from out of province was found to be under the influence of alcohol. Consequently, he was arrested and based on breath test results, was issued a 30-day driving suspension.

*Police assisted Weyburn Mental Health Services with locating an emotionally disturbed 29-year-old male who left their facility.

*Police remind residents, homeowners and landlords that yards must be kept neat and tidy. Weyburn's bylaw 2004-3021 states that property maintenance and nuisance abatement will be enforced. Examples of some of these infractions may include garbage, weeds and grass not being cut and maintained as well as trees and branches stacked or piled in any area of your property including front, back yards and back lanes. These types of infractions may lead to a maintenance order or charges.
