Police investigate attempted robbery, break-in

The Weyburn Police Service responded to 79 calls for service during the week of August 13-19, including an attempted robbery, and break-and-enter to the mall.

• Weyburn police responded to a silent panic alarm at the Liquor Spot on Aug. 14. An attempted robbery had occurred by a person, suspected to be a female, with a knife. No money or merchandise was taken as they ran off when the employee came to the counter. The investigation is ongoing.

• Weyburn police responded to an alarm to the City Centre mall on Thursday. Officers found two males leaving the mall with bandanas covering their faces and were arrested for break and enter. The males later released with charges and conditions.

• City police received a call about a vehicle window that was smashed out on Sunday. The vehicle appeared to have been rummaged through. The incident remains under investigation.

• Weyburn police received a report of a domestic in progress on Saturday. Officers responded and arrested one male for mischief and causing a disturbance. The male was found to be under the influence of prescription and nonprescription drugs.

• City police received a report of a domestic dispute in progress on Wednesday. Officers attended and mediated the situation without incident.

• Police responded to a vehicle collision where a dog was struck and killed at the intersection of Douglas Road and Fifth Street on Thursday. The investigation resulted in a female driver being charged with failing to yield the right of way.

• Weyburn police responded to a horse on the loose near Wal-Mart on Friday. The horse had got loose by chewing through a rope. The horse was caught by the owner without incident.

• City police received a report on Friday of a suspicious male who was seen circling around the caller’s vehicle and looking into the box of the truck the previous night. Nothing was taken from the vehicle.
