The Weyburn Police Service responded to a report of a residential break-and-enter and an assault at about 12:40 a.m. on Dec. 31. The matter is still under investigation. Police are currently looking for a 29-year-old male suspect from Regina in relation to this matter. This matter is believed to be an isolated incident.
Members of the Weyburn Police Service conducted a traffic stop of a person believed to be driving while under the influence of alcohol at about 5 p.m. on Dec. 28. As a result of the stop, a 63-year-old Alberta male driver was issued a 72-hour licence suspension and his vehicle was impounded for three days.
Weyburn police were dispatched to a local bar regarding a number of people who were fighting at about 2 a.m. on Dec. 27. Upon arrival the altercation had subsided and some people had left. It appears that during the altercation, a 28-year-old male and a 22-year-old male became involved with each other over something aside from the original incident. Alcohol was a contributing factor.
City police received a second complaint in two days regarding the theft of vehicle hub caps from a vehicle parked in the Moffat Drive area of the city on Dec. 27. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact the Weyburn police, or to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
Weyburn police responded to a two-vehicle collision at 16th Street and Railway Avenue at about 11:50 a.m. on Dec. 28. The investigation showed that a vehicle travelling east on Railway Avenue had stopped at the stop sign, then turned north onto 16th Street, failing to see the southbound vehicle, resulting in a collision. Although there was considerable damage to both vehicles, no one was injured. The 91-year-old driver of the eastbound vehicle was issued a ticket for leaving a stop sign before it was safe to do so.
City police were dispatched to a local business regarding an intoxicated individual who had fallen off his bicycle at about 4:30 p.m. on Dec. 28. It was determined that a 49-year-old male, who was on conditions not to consume alcohol, had taken a tumble off his bicycle. He was treated by EMS. Charges are now pending for failing to comply with a court order.
The Weyburn police received a report of a missing 24-year-old vulnerable male at about 10:30 p.m. on Dec. 28. The person was subsequently located and found to be fine.
Weyburn PS conducted a Court-Ordered curfew check on a 20-year-old male at about 11:45 p.m. on Dec. 29. The male was found not to be in his residence and is now facing a breach of court order charge.
The Weyburn PS received information that a 23-year-old female was in breach of court-ordered conditions to not be in a bar on Jan. 1. The suspect was located and has now been charged with breach of that court order.
Overall the Christmas season was very uneventful for the city police.
