Police investigate break-in, and violent family disturbance

The Weyburn Police Service received a call regarding a break-and-enter to an apartment building at about 1:30 a.m. on Saturday. Upon attending and after investigation, it was determined that the accused, a 21-year-old male, had earlier been asked to leave the apartment that he was co-renting. When he later returned he broke into the apartment. He has been charged with mischief for damaging the security door to gain entry to the building.
• Police received a 911 call regarding what was believed to be a violent incident in progress at about 6 p.m. on Saturday. When police arrived at the residence the combatant had already left. It was determined that the incident was a domestic family matter. A short time later, the 18-year-old male returned to the residence still causing trouble and was subsequently arrested and held in custody until he was sober.
• City police received a call regarding a pedestrian that had been struck by a vehicle at about 4:15 p.m. on Saturday. Although the investigation is still ongoing, it was learned that an 81-year-old driver had parked his vehicle believing it to be in park, only to find that it rolled ahead striking an 86-year-old pedestrian bystander. The pedestrian was transported to the local hospital where he was admitted for observation.
• The Weyburn police have received two unrelated computer fraud complaints on Friday. In the one complaint, a person received pop-up information about a virus on her computer and that a credit card number was required to clean the computer. In the other, a person received what appeared to be a fraudulent photo radar ticket.
• Weyburn police received a report of a suspected impaired driver on the evening of Nov. 7. When located by the police, the vehicle had just been stopped by the Weyburn RCMP. After investigation it was determined that the driver, a 39-year-old female, was believed to be impaired by a drug. A drug recognition expert was called in to assist and determined that the driver was impaired by a drug. She was charged accordingly and will be making a court appearance.
• The Weyburn Police Service received notification of a person who had suffered a gunshot wound at about 9:15 a.m. on Nov. 7. After initial investigation, it was determined this was an accidental occupational injury that occurred outside of Weyburn. The file was turned over to the RCMP.
• City police received a complaint that a truck towing a trailer had damaged a city sign on Nov. 8. The investigation revealed that the driver of the vehicle had improperly turned a corner, causing the 30-foot trailer to ride up on the curb striking the sign and knocking it over. The driver was located and has been charged with driving without due care and attention.
• Police responded to a two-vehicle collision at Government Road South and Third Avenue South on Thursday. The vehicle on Government Road was travelling north at the time of the incident.
• While attending to a call to keep the peace on Thursday, while personal property was removed from a domestic dispute, a 20-year-old male was encountered at the scene.
Based on information previously known by the police, the male was arrested for a break-and-enter from Estevan having occurred Oct. 1. The male was held a short time and released from custody on a number of conditions. He will be making his court appearance in Estevan.
• As the result of a high-visibility impaired driving roving checkstop on Saturday, a member of the Weyburn police CTSS Unit conducted a traffic stop at about 1 a.m. on 18th Street near Barber Crescent. A 45-year-old male was arrested and is facing a charge of impaired driving for having a blood alcohol level over three times the legal limit. In addition, the driver received an immediate roadside suspension and had his vehicle seized.
• During a high visibility drinking and driving roving checkstop on Sunday at about 1:45 a.m., a member of the Weyburn police CTSS Unit conducted a traffic stop on Government Road South. The 19-year-old male driver was arrested at the scene and has been charged with driving over .08. In addition, he received an immediate licence suspension and his vehicle was seized.
