The Weyburn Police Service wishes to remind motorists that the school zone speed limit in the city of Weyburn is now 30 kilometres an hour. The City is working diligently to get the signs installed as quickly as possible. While the exact areas of the school zones will not be known until the signs are erected, please be mindful that this is in fact the law and that 30 km/h is the maximum legal speed in the immediate areas of any and all of the schools in the city.
As we get closer to school being back in session, starting on Thursday, Sept. 1, the police will be out in full force educating the public on the new zones.
City police are investigating a report of a residential break-and-enter on Sunday, where a minor amount of property was taken.
The Weyburn police are investigating a report of a theft from a local business on Aug. 15.
The Weyburn police received a report of an unauthorized ATM transaction on Friday. As the result of the investigation, a 17-year-old complainant was charged with public mischief and will be making a court appearance.
City police received a report from a person concerned about an animal locked in a vehicle on Wednesday. The investigation showed that the vehicle windows were open and the animal had cool water in the vehicle.
Police received a report of a pedestrian who had been bitten by a dog on Wednesday. The police wishes to remind dog owners that they are legally responsible for keeping their animal in their yard. Should a dog be found at large and to have bitten someone, significant charges can result, up to and including the destruction of the animal.
City police received a call regarding a hit-and-run vehicle collision at about 10 p.m. on Wednesday. The suspect vehicle is a dark-coloured car. It was witnessed hitting a vehicle parked in the 1700 block of Clark Avenue.
Police assisted in mediating a domestic dispute between a 34-year-old male and a 30-year-old female on Thursday.
As the result of a traffic stop, a 34-year-old male was issued a 72-hour driving suspension on Friday.
City police received an arrest warrant and apprehended a 36-year-old individual pursuant to the Mental Health Act on Friday. The person was admitted for assessment.
City police were dispatched just after midnight to a report of a domestic assault on Saturday. During that investigation, a 49-year-old male was arrested for being intoxicated in public and held until sober. The investigation of the assault is ongoing.
A member of the Weyburn police CTSS Unit conducted a traffic stop to check for drinking and driving at about 1:20 a.m. on Sunday. As a result a 34-year-old male was arrested and was charged with driving while over .08.
The Weyburn police were dispatched to a report of a vehicle collision at about 7:45 a.m. on Sunday. There were no injuries but both vehicles were found to not be driveable. A 42-year-old male has been charged with driving without due care and attention.
