On January 31, the Weyburn Police Service received a report of a sexual assault against a 24 year-old female. A 46 year-old male is currently under investigation for this offence. The victim and suspect were known to each other.
Also on January 31, the Weyburn PS received a report from a local business that two males had left without paying their bill. One of the suspects was later arrested at another establishment for leaving without paying his bill. Both matters are still under investigation.
Further on January 31, the Weyburn PS, in a related matter, were called to a local business regarding a person who left without paying his bill. The 34 year-old male male was extremely intoxicated and located a short distance from the business. While dealing with him on the matter, he became extremely agitated and belligerent, even threatening the police officer. He was arrested and lodged in cells. He is facing charges and will be appearing in court in due course.
Also on January 31, the Weyburn PS receive a report from a concerned citizen regarding a suspicious male rummaging through parked vehicles. The male is described as wearing a dark coat with a hood, 6 feet tall, 18-23 years-old and was last seen in the area of the spray park.
There have been numerous reports this past week of similar incidents of vehicles having been rummaged through. Once again, we urge citizens to lock their vehicles. Rarely do we have an incident where a vehicle has been damaged to gain entry. These are simply crimes of opportunity and if a vehicle is locked, the person usually walks past to the next unlocked vehicle.
On January 30, the Weyburn PS received a report that a 27 year-old male, under conditions to not contact the victim, had been texting her. The suspect has been charged with breaching the no-contact order.
On January 29, the Weyburn PS responded to a report of a disturbance at a local pub. Upon arrival the disturbance had diffused. A 22 year-old male and a 27 year-old male were separated and respectively given rides home. No charges were laid.
Also on January 29, the Weyburn PS received a report of a domestic assault. During the course of the investigation, it was also learned that the female victim had breached a non-contact order with respect to her boyfriend. A 26 year-old male is facing charges of assault. The 24 year-old female victim, due to breaching her non-contact order, is also facing a charge of breaching that order.
On January 28, a local business was the victim of a break, enter and theft of cash while it was closed. Entry was gained by prying open a delivery door. Once inside, the thief took an amount of cash. The matter is still under investigation.
On January 26, the Weyburn PS received a report of domestic assault having occurred at a residence in Weyburn. The accused unlawfully entered the residence where a physical altercation ensued with his 40 year-old girlfriend, where she sustained minor injuries. A 39 year-old male occupant of the house attempted to come to her aid and also sustained minor injuries. A 46 year-old male then fled the scene. With the assistance of the Weyburn RCMP, he was arrested without incident a short time later at his home in North Weyburn. He was remanded in custody and will be making a Weyburn court appearance in due course.
