Police urge caution to those who are playing Pokémon Go game

The Weyburn Police have issued some tips for residents who have joined in the Pokémon Go craze.
“While engaged in the game we urge you to know that it is just a game and that you are not authorized to go onto private property without permission, or to cause any type of traffic disruption or disruption in a business,” said Inspector Rod Stafford. “We have heard anecdotally in the past week that there have been minor incidents as a direct result of searching for the illusive Pokémon’s. Please play safe and remember not to infringe upon the rights of others while you are engaged in playing the game.”
During a service call on July 24, the Weyburn Police observed four males to be acting in a suspicious manner. They were located and found to be in possession of property from an adjoining business. After determining this was more a matter of mischief than theft the four males, aged 19-20, were given a warning regarding their actions. Alcohol was a contributing factor.
The same day the police received a complaint that the Weyburn Minor Football shed, located at the Comp School grounds, had been damaged. Anyone who may having information about this incident is asked to contact the Weyburn Police, or to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477
Police members received a call regarding a male person, apparently passed out, on July 23. An 18-year-old male was located in a heavily intoxicated state. After being assessed by EMS, he was lodged in police cells and released when sober. He was also issued a ticket for a Minor Unlawfully possessing alcohol.
On that same day, the police were dispatched to a report of a fight in progress at a residence. Upon attending the fight was over but was determined to have been between a 46-year-old male and a 43-year-old male. Alcohol was a contributing factor.
A report of a break and enter was made on July 22. After police attended and conducted the investigation, it was learned that the incident resulted from a domestic situation between a 44-year-old male and a 31-year-old female. The matter was mediated.
Police members are seeking the assistance of the public in an incident that happened in the downtown core on July 22, at about 3:45 p.m., where a vehicle illegally dumped rotting fish into the business dumpster. A possible licence plate of 75412S was given.

Police members responded to a call of domestic disturbance on July 22, between a 26-year-old female and a 43-year-old male. The matter was mediated.
As the result of a traffic stop on July 21, a 21-year-old male driver was issued a 72 hour driving suspension for driving under the influence of alcohol.
Staff at the police station have received a number of complaints about internet or telephone scams. One involved a ‘Secret Shopper’ scam. The other involved an iTunes card scam. The Police Service continues to stress that you have to be diligent in researching these activities. As most of these scams are centered off-shore if residents do become a victim with an actual loss of money, it is extremely difficult for the police to investigate.
The Weyburn Police responded to a three-vehicle collision at First Avenue and Ninth Street on July 20 There were minor injuries but nothing requiring EMS. A 47-year-old female driver was issued a traffic ticket for driving without due care and attention.
That same day, police members received a complaint regarding a domestic situation that had resulted in threats being uttered. A 28-year-old male has been charged with uttering threats and will be making a court appearance.
Police were called to a report of a domestic disturbance between a 35-year-old female and 36-year-old male on July 18. The matter was mediated.
