Saskatchewan Premier Scott Moe and Weyburn-Big Muddy MLA Dustin Duncan had a sneak preview of the Legacy Park Elementary School and the Weyburn Recreation and Culture Centre, both under construction, on Friday afternoon.
Accompanied also by Mayor Marcel Roy, Coun. Jeff Chessall, Andrew Crowe, the City of Weyburn’s director of leisure services, Southeast Cornerstone board chair Audrey Tremblay, and Cornerstone’s director of facilities and transportation Andy Dobson, the guided tour took the group through the WRCC and through the school.
Crowe and Dobson each took turns explaining what features each facility was going to have, such as the large commons area and upper level in the school, and the large open soccer field space in the WRCC as two examples.
Towards the end of the tour, Premier Moe and MLA Duncan took questions from the media, where both expressed how well the construction is going so far.
The premier and MLA also met with city council prior to the tour, where a number of city issues were discussed, including the state of infrastructure improvements and needs in Weyburn, and the need for a new hospital.
Premier Moe reiterated that a new hospital will be built in Weyburn, but he did not provide a time-line for this to happen other than to say when the province was ready and able to proceed, noting there are a number of steps to take in the process of getting it to where the new school building is at.
