A program to assist parents after separation and divorce will be offered this winter in Weyburn by the province’s Family Justice Services. These public information sessions are intended to help people who are considering or may be in the process of separation or divorce.
Two sessions have been scheduled, for Saturday, December 3 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and on Saturday, February 11, 2017, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
There is no charge to take part in these session, but registration is mandatory, and the location will be advised when people register for the program.
Topics of discussion include options for resolving disputes and stages of separation and divorce, children’s reaction to separation and divorce, and challenges to parenting after separation or divorce.
In considering options for resolving disputes, there will be a presentation of the various stages, losses and changes experienced by separating or divorcing couples. There will be a discussion of the options available for dispute resolution, and information will be provided on child support guidelines.
There will be a discussion of how children may react at different developmental ages, and a video presentation will be shown where children talk about their personal experiences of separation or divorce.
Lastly, there will be a presentation on changing family structure and roles, with an emphasis on communication and keeping children out of the middle of parental conflict.
