In light of the two accidents in the past month at the Queen Street railway crossing, Mayor Debra Button said the problem would be raised at City Council that action will be taken.
The rail crossing has been the site of two train/vehicle accidents in the last month involving semi-trailers that are too long and do not have time to access the highway.
"Safety must always be our top priority. That is the number one duty that a municipal government owes to its taxpayers. I understand that this hasn't been an easy problem to solve," said Button
Over the years, possible alternatives to the situation have been proposed but each has had implications. The City hired engineers to study the problem but they were unable to come up with a conclusive solution.
Despite the past difficulties, Button offered her personal commitment to getting the problem solved.
"We are just going to have to think harder to come up with a way to improve safety at that crossing," she said.
