ROCANVILLE — Rocanville is the place to be this weekend as the community holds a party to kick off summer, Community Day, on June 7.
It’s going to be a full Saturday, beginning with a pancake breakfast from 8:30 to 11 a.m. at the Nutrien Community Hall hosted by the Dream Big Daycare.
After filling up on pancakes, take in the beach-themed parade, which begins at 11 a.m. Prizes will be awarded for Most Creative Float, Most Colourful Float, and Best-Dressed Float Participants, and kids are more than welcome to decorate their bicycles and join in the fun. There’s also a prize for the Best Decorated Bike.
Throughout the day, visitors can take in the car show on Ellice Street from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. or cheer on their favourite minor ball team. There’s also a pop-up market during the same time as the car show, featuring local vendors with their wares on display. For the younger set, there will be a Kids’ Zone at the Rec Centre from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
With all that activity, you’re sure to be hungry and the Knights of Columbus will be serving up sausage and perogies for supper at the Nutrien Community Hall from 4 to 6:30 p.m.
Evening entertainment is sure to get your toes tapping with Métis fiddler Jason Lepine, The Wandering Métis Jason McKay and the famous Ivan Flett Memorial Dancers, all starting at 7:30 p.m.
Once the sun goes down, cast your eyes to the skies as the Rocanville Fire Department will set off fireworks over at the ball diamonds.
All told, it’s going to be one heck of a party you won’t want to miss.
