Sask. COVID-19 update: 234 new cases, 694 recoveries, four more deaths

There are 234 new cases of COVID-19 to report in Saskatchewan on Jan. 20, bringing the provincial total to date to 21,112 cases. Four Saskatchewan residents who tested positive for COVID-19 have died.

There are 234 new cases of COVID-19 to report in Saskatchewan on Jan. 20, bringing the provincial total to date to 21,112 cases.

Four Saskatchewan residents who tested positive for COVID-19 have died. One reported death was in the 60-69 age group in the Regina zone; one reported death was in the 70-79 age group in the North Central zone; and two new deaths in the 80+ age group were reported in the Saskatoon (1) and South East (1) zones.

The Ministry of Health says three deaths (two in the Regina zone and one in the South East zone) have been removed from the deaths from to COVID-19 number as it has been determined they were not COVID-19 related. This will be reflected in the COVID-19 dashboard immediately.

Eight new cases are from the South East region. One case is in South East Zone 4, which includes Estevan. The number of active cases in Zone 4 remains at 33.

Four new cases are in South East Zone 3, which includes Weyburn, two new cases are in Zone 2, to the north of Zone 4, and one new case is in Zone 1, to the northwest of Zone 4.

There are 234 active cases in the South East region.

The new cases in Saskatchewan are located in the Far North West (27), Far North Central (1), Far North East (18), North West (39), North Central (9), North East (17), Saskatoon (66), Central West (6), Central East (15), Regina (23), South West (1) and South Central (2) zones, and two new cases have pending residence information

Another 694 people are listed as recovered, bringing the total number of recoveries to 17,184. Forty-nine of the recoveries are in the South East Region.

The Ministry of Health says the reporting database is being updated to reconcile a significant backlog in the number of recoveries and these will be reflected in the daily case statistics, with more recoveries. This adjustment will occur over the next few days. 

There are 3,702 cases that are considered active.

Due to a technical issue, current hospitalization data is not available and will be updated in the Jan. 21 report.

There were 2,559 COVID-19 tests processed in Saskatchewan on Jan. 19, 2021, including 231 from the South East.

To date, 479,092 COVID-19 tests have been processed in Saskatchewan.  As of January 18, 2021 when other provincial and national numbers were available, Saskatchewan’s per capita rate was 275,596 people tested per million population. The national rate was 444,549 people tested per million population.

The seven-day average of daily new cases is 298 (24.6 new cases per 100,000 population).

There were 2,658 doses of COVID-19 vaccine administered yesterday in Saskatchewan – this brings the total number of vaccines administered in the province to 24,575.

The doses were administered in the following zones: Regina (774), Saskatoon (444), North Central (460), North West (348), Far North East (80), Far North West (11), Far North Central (9), Central East (485) and South East (47). No data was reported Jan. 19, 2021 for the North East zone.

Pfizer has announced that Canada will receive zero doses for the week of Jan. 25 but the shipment received this week will permit for limited vaccinations to continue next week.
