Sask. COVID-19 update: 32 new cases in the South East, including three in Estevan's zone

There are 332 new cases of COVID-19 to report in Saskatchewan on Jan. 9, bringing the provincial total to 17,803 cases. Seven Saskatchewan residents who tested positive for COVID-19 have died.

There are 332 new cases of COVID-19 to report in Saskatchewan on Jan. 9, bringing the provincial total to 17,803 cases.

Seven Saskatchewan residents who tested positive for COVID-19 have died. Four new deaths were recorded in North Central: one in the 70-79 age group and three in the 80+ age group. 

Two new deaths were recorded in the Regina zone: one in the 60-69 age group and one in the 80+ age group.  One new death was recorded in the South East in the 50-59 age group.

Thirty-two new cases are located in the South East, with three of them in South East Zone 4, which includes Estevan. Six are in Zone 3, to the west of Zone 4; seven are in Zone 2, to the north of Zone 4, and 16 are in Zone 1, to the northwest of Zone 4.

Eighteen cases in Zone 4 are considered active, and there are 199 active cases in the South East. Zone 4 continues to have the fewest number of active cases in the region.  

The other new cases are located in the Far North West (nine), Far North Central (eight), Far North East (17), North West (44), North Central (18), North East (30), Saskatoon (74), Central West (two), Central East (14), Regina (57), and South Central (eight). Nineteen new cases have pending residence information.

Another 189 people have recovered, bringing the total number of recoveries to 14,426. Ten more people in the South East are considered recovered.

A total of 3,186 cases are considered active.

One hundred and seventy-nine people are in hospital. One hundred and forty-nine people are receiving inpatient care in the following zones: Far North West (1), Far North Central (1); North West (9); North Central (29); North East (3); Saskatoon (46); Central East (9); Regina (38); South Central (2); and South East (11). The number of hospitalizations in the South East is up two from Jan. 8.

Thirty people are in intensive care in the following zones: North West (1); North Central (5); Saskatoon (9); Central East (2) and Regina (13).

As of Jan. 9, a total of 6,964 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in Saskatchewan. This includes 2,069 Pfizer doses and 788 second doses in the Regina pilot program; 2,681 Pfizer doses in Saskatoon; 386 Pfizer doses in Prince Albert; 482 Moderna doses in the Far North West zone, 65 Moderna doses in the Far North Central and 493 Moderna vaccinations were administered yesterday in the Far North East.

There were 3,049 COVID-19 tests processed in Saskatchewan on January 8, 2021, with 231 from the South East.

The seven-day average of daily new cases is 289 (23.9 new cases per 100,000 population) and is now available on the Government of Saskatchewan website.
