Sask. COVID-19 update: one new death, three new cases, 30 more recoveries

There are three new cases of COVID-19 to report in Saskatchewan on Aug. 26, according to the Ministry of Health, bringing the provincial total to 1,604 reported cases. All three new cases are from the Saskatoon area.

There are three new cases of COVID-19 to report in Saskatchewan on Aug. 26, according to the Ministry of Health, bringing the provincial total to 1,604 reported cases.

All three new cases are from the Saskatoon area.

For the second straight day, someone diagnosed with COVID-19 has died. This person was from the southwest zone and in the 50-59 age range. Twenty-four people with COVID-19 have died in Saskatchewan. 

Of the 1,604 reported cases, 60, or about 3.7 per cent, are considered active. 

Thirty more people have recovered, bringing the provincial total to 1,520 people, or 94.8 per cent of those diagnosed with the virus.

Three people are in hospital.  One person is receiving inpatient care in Saskatoon and two people are in intensive care in Saskatoon.

Investigations completed thus far have found that 24 of the 60 active cases are in communal living settings.

There are 413 cases from the south area (213 southwest, 189 south central and 11 southeast). None of the cases in the southeast are considered active.

As for the rest of the province, 352 cases are from the far north area (346 far northwest, zero far north central, six far northeast); 259 cases are from the north area (125 northwest, 68 north central, 66 northeast); 254 cases are from the Saskatoon area; 194 cases are from the central area (161 central west, 33 central east); and 132 cases are from the Regina area.

Of the 1,604 cases in the province, 233 cases are travellers, 818 are community contacts (including mass gatherings), 484 have no known exposures and 69 are under investigation by local public health.

Sixty-six cases are healthcare workers; however, the source of the infections may not be related to healthcare in all instances.

A total of 264 cases involve people 19 years of age and under, 516 cases are in the 20-39 age range, 492 are in the 40-59 age range, 276 are in the 60-79 age range and 56 are in the 80-plus range.

Fifty-one per cent of the cases are females and 49 per cent are males.

To date, 135,518 COVID‐19 tests have been performed in Saskatchewan. As of Aug. 24, when other provincial and national numbers were available from the Public Health Agency of Canada, Saskatchewan’s per capita rate was 95,970 people tested per million population. The national rate was 138,473 people tested per million population.

There were 1,186 COVID-19 tests performed in Saskatchewan on Tuesday.
